Roughly 1990, I had been yearning for a Mont Blanc ballpoint pen. If I recall, it was something like $120'ish. I could not make up my mind....black or burgandy..... (i over-analyze things). Suddenly, at birthday or maybe Christmas, my then girlfriend (now wife) got me a gift. Open it and viola! It's a black Mont Blanc ballpoint!!! Now I have one, but of course, I yearned for the other.....so later, I also bought the other. I will swap them depending on mood, what I'm wearing or just because. I really don't favor one over the other.

So yes.... I've had these at my fingertips for 35 years. We were in Vegas, had a cartoon "portrait" done of us. I think he doctored the drawing and had us in pajama's.....HOWEVER, in the shirt pocket.....yep.....was my pen. My wife jokes that I'll put it in my PJ's and go to bed with it.

Fast forward to last week.... I see red one, I want to take black one to work. Can't find it. VERY strange.... but grab red (burgandy) and leave. Look over the next couple days, nothing. Not in a shirt pocket, not in laundry, not on floor under things.....I am finally beginning to come to grips that I went to a location for work (where I use a pen as my 'pointer' on my screen) and I must have left it there. I'm getting a bit bummed. I've always taken some pride that I've kept these at my side for sooooooooooo long.

Changing story a bit.... wife brought home a rescue dog and two rescue cats. Dog is a bit older, looks to have early cataracts so doesn't see well and will bump into things. We ALWAYS take her out on a leash so we're with her and can witness her doing her business or not.... She's been here long enough, we have started trying to let her out on her own to see if she can return (we're keeping eye on her)

Tonight, it was dark out. I decided I'd let her out on her own but I'd be with her with flashlight in case she can't see.

*double aside comment* We have a gravel driveway

Back to dog.... I let her out. Normally, she goes straight down hill, to field and does her business. Nope, not tonight. Tonight, she turns 90 degrees and heads towards gravel driveway and beyond. I have flashlight. As I'm keeping it on her, I see a glint in driveway. It clearly catches my eye as I'm suspecting it might be a nail, screw or something. As I got closer I thought "nah.....with Christmas upon us, it's probably a piece of tinsel that got dropped"... but I'm walking that way so figure I'll pick it up.

I get to it and stop in my tracks. It's my black Mont Blanc pen!!! It must have fallen out of shirt somehow, landed in gravel. Because it's in gravel, it got gouged up and the top part of the barrel is cracked. Still..... at least I didn't lose it!!!

I just emailed Mont Blanc to see if I can order and just buy the top and bottom "precious resin" (ahem....plastic) parts or if I have to send pen in.

I can find a used one on ebay for around $80 but fear it's likely a counterfit so will see what they say.

Ok, that's my good news of the day. Carry on with what you were doing.

Oh, and Merry Christmas!!!

I have a strange story from last week if ok to post?

Dad passed 25 years ago to the day last week and as a kid he would sometimes say let’s stop and each get chocolate old fashion donut and a chocolate milk…

Thinking about him I saw a donut shop and decided to get myself a chocolate old fashion and a chocolate milk.

At the same time I entered another older man entered with the same build and with a jacket like dad would wear… the owner said who’s first and I pointed to the older man… who said so many to choose that he was not ready… I said chocolate old fashion and a milk for me… the man said same for him.

I went to pay and the man said he was paying for mine… I already had my money out and he said just enjoy, paid and was gone…

I can appreciate your story Mr. Richard. I use fountain pens by choice, and have some favorites I too would hate to lose.

30 years ago, my son worked at a dry cleaners after school and one day he found a Mont Blanc in a dress shirt pocket getting ready to be laundered.

The owner gave him $100 for returning his pen that night after work...

I’ve never experienced Mont Blanc so it’s fair to say I don’t know what I’m missing…

I was given a nice presentation Cross Pen with gold fill…

I kept it in my desk drawer and one day it was missing… little brother said he needed a pen for school and borrowed it… never saw it again.

Finding something misplaced is a great feeling…

Spooky as can be! A quick visit from the other side...

I don't think I've bought a pen in 20 years. There are so many promotional or campaign pens floating around at work that are free for the taking. Most of my co-workers use their phone for notes and forms are on work tablets for clients to sign electronically. I have to go out in the field so I write down addresses and need clients to sign paper forms. I don't get paid enough to justify buying a pen.
I lost my knife last winter when I was feeding the horses. I had temporarily put the knife in my insulated overalls pocket after cutting the twine on a hay bale. I discovered there was a hole in the pocket and thought it had fallen into the snow. I spent some time looking for it and thought the horses must have trampled it in the snow. After about a week I looked at my overalls pocket closer and noticed that the hole actually went into the lining and I eventually found my every day carry knife mixed in with the insulated lining at the bottom of my pants leg. I was able to manipulate it back up to the hole and retrieve it. My wife immediately fixed the hole since she was apparently tired of hearing me complain about losing my favorite knife.
So I lost my knife but I had been carrying it every day. So did I really lose it?

Nice (and interesting) story! I confused someone at a drive through (probably McDonalds type thing) once.

Wife was in her car, I'm in mine. She's ahead of me (in her car) ordering a tea or something.... I'm now ordering ... I tell the person taking the orders "Hey....do me a favor..... can I pay for the pretty girl's meal that is ahead of me.... can I do that?"

"uh....I guess"

"Good...oh, and would you do me a favor and see if you can get her name and phone number for me???"

As I drive up behind wife, they were talking.... gal asked if she could get phone number for the guy behind her.... wife said "no" and drove ahead to one of the parking spots.

I got my fries & coke, drove up and parked next to her. She gets out, jumps into my car (and probably yells at me for forgetting to take the trash out or something lol)

The gal at the window just looked with a befuddled look on her face.

I've always wondered what she was thinking. Gal (my wife) goes from "NO" to jumping into car 30 seconds later.

My wife hates it when I pull stunts like that on her.

:devilish:
