I just picked up a C99 and I am looking for a manual as well. Everything seems to work after going through the fuel system and blowing out the lines, gas tank, ect. Cant seem to engage the wheels though. A manual would help, Can you point me in the right direction.

I haven't received a reply to my post on the manual. There is a transmission on the drive axle, if your's is the same as mine, mine is an early version. The center position is neutral up or down is fwd or reverse can't remember which is which. Would suggest to get the unit where you have some room to run, when the unit is in reverse "trenching mode" , travels slow, when in the forward mode unit travels fairly fast and to switch back to neutral isn't that easy, my drive belts on mine always wanted to run the ground drive, especially in forward motion. There is also a lockable hub on the R.H. wheel same as early wheel drive vehicles, make sure that is engaged. I have a picture of the transmission, will try to post if that doesn't work, send me a private post will fwd pic. Good luck. Note if picture posts, fwd / rev might be opposite as on pic. OK gave up on the attachment.

Recently acquired a C99 and, after much tinkering, got it running well. However, the boom only goes down about 12". There doesnt seem to be any issues with the depth adjuster. Is this normal? What is the max depth of cut? A copy of the manual would be great.

I'm thinking of joining the ranks of a C99 ownership. There's one on Craigslist in the area. Needs a new recoil, carb cleaned, and put back into use. Has anyone tried to manufacture a backfill blade for this model like they have for the newer trenchers? Has anyone tried to do a repower? This is the most informative thread I could find on the internet about the old C99 machines. Thanks, Jason

Bought a C 99 at a yard sale a year ago. Well failed a week ago. Gotta trench in the new electric wire. Ok, Stuck a tube in the tire ($6.00 from Walmart.com). Someone had stuck a bunch of rope plugs through the side wall. Yes, really. Holding air now but still no spark hmmm... Cover off the mag. Ok. White powdery stuff between the points. File, file, file. Ah! Spark. Still leaking fuel between the sediment bowl and valve body. Where did I leave that collection of fat O rings? Oh yeah, in the house, in the basement. Hike, hike, hike. Got it. Hike back, hike back, hike back to the Morton building. Great. No more leak. Fuel valve still stuck open, but who would ever want to turn it off anyway? Grease, grease, grease. I think I got'em all. Who really knows for sure? Pull, pull, pull, rumble, rumble, rumble. Great!!

How does this gizmo planetary reducer thing work? I think I got it but....

It backs up about 1/3 of a wheel revolution, then the planetary reducer rotates about a full turn forward all by itself. Then it catches and turns the wheels about another 1/3 turn in reverse / trenching direction and repeats the process ad infinitum. Goes forward no problem. Trenches fine for that 1/3 turn followed by the long wait for the reducer to come around and catch again. The tab is all the way in the correct position for trenching. It stays where it belongs just fine.

The thing looks to be in good shape, low miles, just old. Any experts on the drive who can give me a clue?

Thanks,

Gary N.

Mine makes about a 30 inch deep trench. There is a grease fitting on the bottom of the boom pivot. I would also check to see if the threads on the adjuster shaft are gummed up preventing the boom from being screwed down farther.
