Only trucks i see with them are GM stuff and usually they heve one noy working.

Chris

Not on mine you didn't...I have never run as a cyclopse..

I personally have no problem with running lights. I really don't see how everyone is seeing this as some infringement of rights...Good grief. It's a safety thing and I have no problem with it...Kinda like airbags etc...Now the OBD2 insurance monitoring thing, I have a serious problem there and I won't even think about signing up for that one no matter what the savings...Running lights don't pay attention to my driving habits, those do...The black box thing is another matter...Who knows where that will go.

I turned them off on my truck. I personally don't like the fact that I can't turn my lights off and leave the engine running. When I want my lights on I'll turn them on.

On a GM the lights are only on when the engine is running and the vehicle is in gear. Put it in neutral and they go off.

They should also include a lights-on when the windshield wipers are on for more than 1 minute or so...I hate driving in a downpour trying to watch for idiots who don't turn their lights on..Pretty dangerous actually.

I do like the idea of the headlights coming on if the windshield wipers are run for longer than a minute or so.

As a motorcyclist I hate DRLs. Laws were passed years before DRLs came about to make motorcycles more visible by running their headlights all the time.

Not long after DRLs came into being the typical "I didn't see him" accident involving motorcycles started going back up.
Motorists no longer spotted the motorcycle they were about to pull in front of as easily and the more they became accustomed to DRLs the more it happened.

I hate DRL's for the same reasons you mention, and I don't ride a motorcycle.

I know motorcycles started having them as standard equipment many, many years ago, but this is the first time I ever heard of anyone who thinks they contributed to accidents.

Our conversion van is big and green with daylight running lights in the form of headlights and parking lights, yeah people have pulled in front of it. We have had a lot of GM products in our family and all the pickups had DRL. I personally don't see the need, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it though I wonder how much extra fuel would be used worldwide.

You would be surprised how many people pull out in front of emergency vehicles with all lights flashing. This has happened to some friends of mine resulting in at least five fatalities.

Not sure about the rest of Canada but in Alberta it is the law that all vehicles have to be equipped with DRL for safety. There are a lot of people with older vehicles who will drive in heavy fog and have no lighting at all on and you don't see them until it's too late, so the government made it a rule.

I have no problem with them either. Just stating GM trucks seem to be the only ones running them.

No idea that DRL's wern't mandatory in the states. They should be everywhere. It really stands out here when a car doesnt have DRL's. They are that much harder to see.

FYI, on many cars, if your wanting to drive (like into a drive in movie), and want the DRLs off, you can put the emergency brake on the first click. This wont engage the brake, but will disengage the light.

Have to agree with Bird on this one. I don't ride anymore, but I used to ride all the time. I even belong to the "IRON BUTT" club (4 of us rode our motorcycles from Maryland to Alaska). Even before DRL were mandatory on bikes, we always rode with our lights on. The whole purpose is to BE SEEN.

I've "gone down" twice on my bikes. Once was my stupidity (showing off) once while traveling through Skowhegan Maine. Guy pulled right out in front of me making a left hand turn as I was coming through the intersection. Said he just didn't see me. When I got to the rally in Lake George, NY, I had a device installed on my bike that would pulsate the headlight while riding and the brake light while braking. Never had another close call. I believe that DRL on M/C saves lives.
