Thanks for the thought but, I contacted them and the web estimator is about right for the Left coast ... right at $900. She said I'd only save about $90 if shipped to a business with forklift capability.
Cheers!

Well sorry. Tried to help. I know for me what the estimator gave me and what I was charged was about $200 difference. Good luck and post some follow ups when you get it.

Have been running one for about 6 months now and only wish I had a little more HP @ the PTO but other than that it's been working well.

THe only problems I have had to-date is that I had to change out the belt on the feed drive and recently bent & twisted the lower arms for the 3PH. I have a lot of rough ground and am guessing that I took 1 bump too many which caused the twist & bend.

Just finishing up today making a new set out of 1/2" steel.

Sounds like a great price. Especially, for people near Indiana (Homier) - not that it matters for my situation since the "deal is done". If all goes well with China Best Products, then costwise I"ll have been better off - since the $1565 includes spare blades and belts and the shipping from Indiana to California has to exceed the difference ($266 less the cost of spare parts).

These folks advertise Chinese tractors and implements and have a good price on the Jinma 6" chipper but I could find no past experiences doing a search here at TBN. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Chipper $1300
Shipping within CA $250

Thanks, in advance, for any help.
Cheers!

If they are selling the Jinman, or same one under another name, not sure it really matters. If you can go there and pick it up, not much risk involved. If you are looking for them to ship it to them and have questions about the stability of the business, you can check with the Chamber of Commerce or Better Bus B. Otherwise, there are retailers all over the country that are selling this as Jinman, Farm Pro, Farm Boss, etc. I'm not sure how much more exhaustive this thread can be on the subject. Some really good posts in here about other folks and their purchases. Good luck.

I didn't know Jinman made Chippers. Perhaps you mean Jimna.

Slippy, (belated) thanks for the attempt to help previously with the Homier thing. I did do my homework re: BBB, etc with the company I noted. No luck. They do have a corp license according to the Sec'y of State, but that's it. I thought i had read a ref to that company before but couldn't find it via a search, thus my plee. Thanks again though.

Cliff_johns ... ... yeh, he mispelled the brand name ... bummer.

Cheers all !

PS Slippy, I know the price, etc is OK ... I just wanted to make the terms public in case anyone else here in CA might want to pursue that source.

I just put my Farmpro together - looked up local dealers on the Farmpro site and waited until he was getting one in a shipment. Gave a good price to me un-assembled. I found no issues with the ends on the driveshaft or the gearlube (replaced it anyway). I think they may be reacting to earlier issues. I replaced the feed roller belt and tapped the ends of the shafts to retain them on the square shafts. It was worth assembling myself - I found a few screws loose, one setscrew missing on a pulley and one zerk fitting missing. The one larger issue I had was that the clearance for the 2 blades was not uniform. Tried to re-align the shaft in main bearings, but couldn't bring it in ( the assembly appears just to have runout), so I had to steel shim one of the blades out 0.062" to get proper clearance. I have a 24 hp engine, and I ate a 4+" tree no problem. Definitely want to add the foot pedal for the feed assembly - anyone have a dimensioned diagram?

Marty,

I am assembling mine today. What do you mean by and tapped the ends of the shafts to retain them on the square shafts ? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I am no mechanic, just have enough tools to get into trouble.

Thanks,

David

Thanks Ronald. Those pics are more helpful than the manual. I got it all together, bolts tightened and fittings greased. Everything else looks okay to me, so unless the drive comes apart I guess I'll hold off reinforcing it.

Tomorrow I'll test it out!....hopefully it won't fall apart /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This thing is awesome! Thanks to all who bought before me and posted. I had ordered and then cancelled one from DR. You saved me $600 and got me more machine. I used the savings to buy a log splitter so I can split what I don't chip /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the update David...... do another recheck on bolts, nuts, set screws ect after a few hours and you should have many trouble free hours as long as you don't feed it something it don't like. Santa came early I see !

Are you talking about the set screws on the end of the feed roller shaft? It will probably make more sense to me when mine comes in. What weight gear lube did you use? I ordered mine almost two weeks ago from Homier. Told it is here in Columbus, but they can't find it.

The drive shaft that connects the gearbox to the feed roller is the area where alot of people have had problems. Unlike a regular driveshaft with u-joints, this one has "ball ends" that swing around inside of a socket. There are several great articles on this, here are the key takeaways I got out of them.
1) Remove the driveshaft and make sure they swivel freely, otherwise you will need to take apart and remedy.
2) Rotate the little clip in each socket with a punch and hammer so that the gap in the clip is not in-line with one of the ball ends
3) Drain the gearbox and re-oil while you are there ( I used about 50/50 mix of 90/140 gear oil and Lucas oil additive
4) While the gearbox is out, replace the original belt with a good one ( i.e.) Powerated Gates or equivalent
5) Each end of the driveshaft has a hole in it. Several people ( including me) have tapped this hole and put in a set screw or bolt to keep the shaft ends from popping off ( the spring is supposed to perform this but no harm in adding more protection)
6) When re-assembling, make sure not to overtension the belt - better to slip than to tear something up.
Again, credit goes to others!

Yes, you are correct. Many folks have contributed on this. Your summary is very good, and now I think I know were you are talking about. I saw what appears to be holes at the ends, but was not sure that was correct.
Thanks again.

Just got my Farm Pro (Jinma) chipper from Homier. Here is how it went:
I ordered on a Wednesday, and it was shipped on the following Friday.
It took almost two weeks to get to me because the unit went to Florida instead of Ohio. I am lead to believe it was a shipping error. I called Homier and they pretty much washed their hands of the situation. They did not want to call the shipping company, just gave me their number and the shipping number for me to track. I called back to inform them of the problem, and essentially told me too bad.

I also called the shipping company, and they have yet to respond to my complaint about shipping.

The unit came in a metal cage connected to a wood pallet. All nuts and bolts were attached and it came with an empty plastic case. I am told that some got the unit with the hardware in the case.

Took the unit off my trailer with my loader and chain. took all the bolts off the cage and chained the unit to my loader using the two holes located on the fly wheel housing. When I lowered the unit I put it on a furniture dolly to roll it around the barn.

Put the base box together and lowered the unit into the box and bolted it up. Thanks to all the instructions in this thread, that went pretty smooth.

I next attached the feed platform and then the discharge shoot. CAUTION... when I put the feed platform on, it almost tipped over. I know others have posted about it being top heavy, but I didn't realize how much so. A set of sockets on the feed platform will make it tip. SO..for those of you yet to put it together, be careful. I then blocked the intake side of the box to make it solid to continue working on.

Next came all the per-use checks. Checked all the zerks, and they were there. A couple of them even had covers for them. All of the bearings on my machine only have one zerk fitting. This is different from other instructions and posts in this thread. The bearings look the same except the number of zerks. I operated every part that was involved with a bearing by hand and then greased again to make sure each was properly greased.

Took the feed roller shaft out as noted in this thread and inspected it. I did notice there was a gap where there was a cut out right where the end of on of the c clip was installed. I moved the c clip to eliminate the gap. Other than that, the unit looked in good shape.

Belts were all tight except one of the center belts seemed a little loose. Not sure how that can be tightened if all the others are snug. I decided not to replace them at this point. Will see how they do.

After going through all the pre-use instructions and set up, I rolled it over to the tractor, connected the top link, the drive shaft and the two lower links.

Took it out for a test run and...WOW! I was impressed. For everything else I looked at and for the price, what a great unit. I can easily see this as my most used attachment.

I put in small stuff to start with and then went to some bigger stuff. My NH TC40D never even labored. By the way, when I took it off the trailer, I used my loader, no rear weights of any kind, no problem lifting it off. And the TC 40D carries the 800lb unit with no problem also.

So...overall it is a great unit for the $. I took me all of about 8 hours from when I started to get it off the trailer until I chipped my first branch.

Do agree that the feed roller release needs to be changed. You can't hold it and pull stuff out if you need to at the same time.

Do have a question though about the chain that is on the drive shaft. Is it supposed to flop around as the shaft spins? And what is its purpose other than to keep the two halves from comming apart. Or, am I supposed to remove the chain. Right now it spins around just missing the draw bar.

Also, question about the feed roller shaft...at each end there is a hole. It is not threaded. Does anyone know what it is for? Would it be a good idea to tap the hole and put in a set screw?

I do want to thank each and everyone of you that have contributed to this thread. I know I would never have purchased this unit had it not been for these posts, and the assmebly and pre-use checks would have taken much longer. Thank you! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
