chainsaw carrying case

Has anyone built their own wooden chainsaw case/box? I'm trying to plan out a box that will carry two saws, bar oil, gas, scrench, chains, etc. to carry in the woods in/on my Kubota.

Well, TEACH, I strongly suggest you make something that is not specific
to your saws, so you can carry anything.

I can carry both of my saws in my removable tool carrier, QA-mounted to
my hood's protection rack. My big saw has a 24" blade and it sticks out a
bit, but I can actually carry both saws at once. My small Makita is in the
photo. I usually carry only one saw, and sometimes gas, oil, chains, and
a snatch block at the same time.

Removability is good since I don't want the box mounted when working in
the rain, as I need to now to clear a mudslide.

Interesting storage concept. I applaud both your welding skills and creativeness. What I am looking to do is create something to hold my saw, files, oil, small gas can, etc. all in one box so I'm less likely to lose anything (which, admittedly, I am known for from time to time, just ask the Mrs.) and its all there ready to go whenever I need it. I also have quite a hike out into the woods where I'll start cutting, so the box needs to have high sides in case it gets bounced around. I want to be able to put it in my wood trailer, on my 3 pt hitch, or as a last resort, put the box in my bucket. I don't need to move it very far by hand, so weight is not a real big concern. But I appreciate your contribution and ideas. Thanks!

When Lowes first came to town a few years ago, they had a sale on those
wagons with pneumatic tires, and high hinged sides. I am sure you have
seen them. Well, I bought one and welded a trailer hitch receiver on the
side of it so I could pull it up perpendicular to the back of my box blade
and lift it into my BB receiver. This allowed me to carry all the stuff you
are carrying, including both of my saws. This also allowed be to easily
disconnect it at my job site, which could be a 1000 or more feet from my
tractor storage building. I now keep my backhoe on all the time so I can't
use this approach. I do miss it, however. Sorry, no pix.

i was just bored a few nights ago and figured the saw we use around our property was in the need of something to keep it safe from other reckless family members so i just whipped this up out of some scrap ply, obviously there isnt a handle yet but im thinking about adding one, once i had everything sized properly, assembly time was really quick and i didn't have to get my wallet out.

I have mine all planned out, I just need to put it together. Mine will hold two saws, 1 gallon gas can, 1 gallon of oil, screnches, and files.

On what do you carry the carry-case with saw to the woods?

Just in the back of the truck, right now I'm just cleaning up some fence rows so i haven't had to carry it very far, but this summer I'm sure it will be getting into the woods more. I never took a photo of it once I put 4 eye-hooks in the top corners and just ran some nylon rope through them.

I just want thank everyone for their ideas and it was interesting to see everyone's different solutions to a similar problem. I nearly have my box finished. I just need to put on a few finishing touches and then 3 coats of poly, and I'm all set. Pictures will coming soon! It ended up being 44" long, 13" high, and 13" wide, with 1/2 plywood on the bottom and sides and 3/4 plywood on the ends. It holds a Husky Rancher, 18" bar, and a Stihl with a 14" bar, a one gallon gas can, one gallon of oil, two screnches, a file, and spare chains. Finally, everything for cutting wood all together, in one place, all the time.

One thing about a wooden box- every saw I've ever owned leaks chain oil out over time unless the tank is drained first, which is a PITA. That might get real messy in a wooden box as it soaks in.
I've got a new Makita/Dolmar on the way with no box, hopefully it won't do that but I'll probably spring for one of the generic plastic boxes for it.
