I have the same complaint about my 2022 Toyota 4Runner. For example, if I'm coming into a town where the speed limit is 35 mpg and I back off the throttle it instantly downshifts. Then as I'm trying to maintain that 35 mph through town the tach jumps up and down a few hundred rpm the whole time I'm driving through town. Once I'm back out on the open road and driving 50+ mph the problem goes away. I believe it has something to do with the way they've programmed the computer that controls the transmission.

This surging is a more recent thing, like in the last 30K of mileage and a known problem with the 2019 rangers. Dealership has worked on it twice.

Those 10 speed transmissions have had their share of teething pains.

I made another appointment with the ford dealership about its tranny. If they can't fix it, I might go to the aftermarket transmission shop that's near us and quite good.

Sat at the ford shop yesterday for nearly 3 hours and they eventually said they had found a fail code in the tranny and a temp sensor was not working. Part was on order.

Check engine light includes a billion things. no idea

Pull the codes. Most parts stores will do it for free, but don't make the mistake of listening to their diagnosis or buy parts. Just write them down and head to the interwebs to research

Thanks I'll take it to the mechanic Monday, I'm thinking something with an emissions sensor since it is running fine and engine light is not blinking.

Simple code readers are down to about $12-15 dollars, and they are worth having around.

So, did you just fill up with has? The Ford EZ fuel "gate" sometimes will set it off, especially if you fill all the way up, and top off.

I did just fill up yesterday and It does have the fuel "gate".

The cause of the engine light was the coolant thermostat went bad triggering a malfunction in the emissions control. All fixed ready to go again.

Ranger's tranny seems to be fixed! The new sensor was installed on Monday.
