Arly, May we ask what the cost of the repair was?

A $100 deductible. They put it in the extended service plan but they'd been working on for some time, like three times over 2 years.

Was driving around around town today without a trailer in tow. Do still love this darn truck with 68K on it. :) When the tanny works right anyway. 😆

Towing a trailer again. Note snow wheels are now on!

Arly, Just curious, is the transmission repair/update still holding up? I am considering going back to a Ranger next spring.

I bought a 2024 Chevrolet Colorado and I've had my share of problems. I'm not impressed with the 2.7 turbo l-4 engine. For just road travel and not pulling my trailer it's satisfactory. It gets reasonably good gas mileage and has decent power for passing. The truck rides well.

But pulling a trailer is another matter. My two place aluminum snowmobile trailer (with two sleds) weighs about 1,800 pounds. The Colorado struggles a bit in my opinion. Part of the problem might be the eight speed transmission. There are bigger "gaps" between gears which seems to require the truck to operate in a lower gear to pull the trailer at highway speeds. The truck seldom shifts up from sixth gear which means the engine is running at about 2300 rpm. It's noisy. Chevrolet rates the towing capacity at 7,700 pounds. I thought 1,800 pounds should be pretty easy.

Like any of the smaller engines that give us better fuel milage it takes horsepower to pull so their small displacement advantage goes away. I get about 13 mpg pulling my two place trailer.

And again, it's just too noisy.

Earlier this summer I was in northern Wisconsin and when I went to start my truck the battery was stone dead. I hadn't left any lights on so I couldn't figure out what happened. The 80 amp booster would do nothing. I went to a slow charge for 3 hours and still nothing. I ended up having the truck towed to the local Chevrolet dealer. I was told it was a struggle to get the battery to take a charge but eventually they were able to start it. They could find nothing wrong so I drove it back to Minnesota.

I was still concerned with what had happened so I took to the local dealer. They found two faulty "codes". It seems that the electronic wizards with General Motors send updates sent via satellite to the vehicles. Everything works fine until the signal gets interrupted before completion. The onboard computer continues to search for the signal at the expense of running down the battery.

I did some online research and found this has been a common problem with the 23-24 Colorado and some other GM vehicles. While it is currently working fine (I haven't been stranded 200 miles from home) my dealer says there is no guarantee it won't happen again.

I plan on test driving the Ford Ranger with the 2.7 ecoboost to see if I like the engine any better than the Colorado. Of course I probably won't be allowed to test it pulling a trailer. If I get a sense that the ecoboost is quieter and I don't "butchered" with the trade price I plan on making the trade.

The new Ranger's I see are 315 hp now while our 2019 is a modest 275. Towing fuel mileage is more about the size of the sail and speed, than the weight.
