    Basic theft prevention

I have a steering ram lock that I put on my tractor when there will be no one around. Nothing is a guarantee, but you either need to lift the front wheels off the ground or cut the steering ram to bypass the lock. Also, they are not cheap and must be shipped in from the UK...

GC 2600 Has anyone replaced the control valve line filter?

The reason I asked about warming up is that I've seen bubbles in my glass in the past, but only when it very cold and it goes away when the hydro warms up. My limited understanding is that cooling fluid can absorb air and heating the fluid releases the trapped air causing the bubbles.

Mold and grass buildup on mower deck underside

Yep, that looks just like mine did last week. This spring in CNY has been wonderful, still don't have my garden in because of the constant rain and 90% of the fields around here are still not planted. Hoping to be able to mow soon without needing to take the deck off every time I do to clean it out.

In addition to this, dandelions attract native bees, especially bumble bees. that are good for my garden. I actually avoid mowing when my lawn is full of yellow flowers. I have bumblebee nests scattered about my property hoping that they will move in. I also mow as tall as possible so the I...

Yep, until you see it happen, or I should say, until you have to go looking for a guide wheel, you'll swear that those clips can't be yanked out. I was surprised the first time it happened to me. Honestly, if it wouldn't make it take 4x the amount of time to adjust the wheel height I'd switch to...

Finally got my garden tilled, first time, this year. This is the latest I've ever waited. Nothing but rain this spring. Letting it dry out a bit now before doing it a second time. It still was really a bit damp, but it didn't clump up, so that's good. As a side note I have to say that I hate...

    Checking filled tires pressure

With the proper gauge it does not matter where the stem is with the proper type of gauge. Yes, you must rinse the gauge thoroughly after use or it will become plugged up and useless. If the pressure is low the weight of the tractor could squash the tire a bit causing the liquid level to be...

    Pump out Fuel Oil Tank

Looking at the picture I posted, I have thought about running the hose/tube through that window..... The instructions for the pump tell me that I need to lift the intake out of the tank and continue to pump until the draw line is cleared. With the pump outside that would mean that I'd have to...

I was out again today too. I've put more hours on my tractor over the last 3 days then I put on it the entire season before this last weekend. May have to go out again tomorrow, but that will depend on what the wind does.

    Roof Ridge/Cap Wind Driven Leak

I only put insulation in the problem areas. I plan to keep an eye on it for moisture build up and replace as needed until I get the closures replaced.

    Pump out Fuel Oil Tank

The pump I have says it has a 10' lift rating for diesel. But to be honest, I don't know exactly what the means. Is it 10 vertical feet? Or is it 10' of hose even if the hose runs mostly horizontal for say 10 or 12 feet but the total vertical lift is 10' or less? I have 2 tanks. One is less...

Update on this. I went up into the attic yesterday while it was windy and snowing and this has temporarily stopped the snow from blowing in.

    Roof Ridge/Cap Wind Driven Leak

To add to what I said above. This has likely been a problem for a while. I only noticed it because I happened to be in the attic when it was snowing an blowing and saw the snow. If I didn't I would not know and I probably would never have discovered it. Another couple of months is not going to...

    Roof Ridge/Cap Wind Driven Leak

Maybe he just doesn't want to get up there in the cold to do the work. I know I wouldn't and can't blame him. To fix it properly the closures needs to be replaced the full length on both sides. If part of it's going then other places are going. Looking from underneath I found several locations...

That's what I've heard my neighbors say about mine, they have not said it to me directly, just to one of my other neighbors that told me. I'm not trying to be a prick by leaving them up, but I just don't have the time or energy to take them down and put them back up again every year. Without...

    Roof Ridge/Cap Wind Driven Leak

Tell me about it. I was in the attic for another reason and saw the snow and now I have to worry about it for 2 months until it's safe to get on the roof. If the roofer guy that does this for a living won't get up there in the winter I'm certainly not going to do it. Thing is, If it was not...

I have snow fence permanently up. The type that is metal wire and lath slats. I don't want to put it up and take it down and the plastic stuff just gets ripped up in the wind I get. Found the perfect place to put it and there it is. Neighbors don't like it, but f them unless they want to help me...

    Roof Ridge/Cap Wind Driven Leak

I went up in the attic yesterday and stuffed some insulation up into the ridge cap, will see if that helps till I can replace the closure. It was sunny outside and I could tell that the closure in those areas are bad because I could see the sun shining in under the cap. After doing some more...

    Roof Ridge/Cap Wind Driven Leak

Had to go out an move snow today and while I was out there I looked up at the roof ridge gap and I could swear I could actually see where there were parts of the closure is missing. Yes, he's a sorta reliative, but he's also a professional contractor. The reason I had him to my roof was because I trusted him more than calling someone I didn't know. I can actually see the edge of the roof panels from inside the cap from the attic, there might be 1 or 2" gap

    Roof Ridge/Cap Wind Driven Leak

the roof pitch is standard for my area 6/12, it is just a standard corrugated metal roof. I don't know that I have an issue with rain, just an issue with snow right now. I have always had issues when it comes to wind. The corrective action will eventually be to replace the bad sections of...

    Roof Ridge/Cap Wind Driven Leak

talked to the guy that put on my roof. It is a vented ridge cap and he advised against the foam. He thinks that stuffing some insulation in from underneath should be good until I can get on...

    Roof Ridge/Cap Wind Driven Leak

Definitely need to come up with a temporary solution. Getting snow and high winds again today. Checked the attic this morning and snow is coming in. Thinking I might chance the spray foam. but this stuff says it needs to be 60F to work, so might not work anyway.

Good point. If the screws are loose on the cap it could expand and push the cap off making matters worse.

    Roof Ridge/Cap Wind Driven Leak

That might also be a plan and easier than working on the roof. But if the screws are loose then that still needs to be fixed. On the other hand, the spay isolation could stop the snow blowing in.

It is not supposed to be vented, at least I don't think it is supposed to be vented. And I'm sure there is a rubber seal under it. But it appears it was either not installed properly or the wind actually caused it to move. Either way, the wind is pushing snow under it in 2 small locations. I...

    Roof Ridge/Cap Wind Driven Leak

I have a metal roof. I was up in the attic and saw snow. It is being driven under the roof cap in a couple of places. Not large. One area is about 16 inches and another is about 32 inches. Using the 16 inch on center trusses to measure. If snow is getting in I'm sure that rain gets in as well...

Yeah, it looks like the clipper on friday will end my vacation from moving snow. 26 or 27 days without starting the tractor in the winter is surprising.
