Well, it's a sad day in NH....

I think, after 17 years and 1210 hours.... I might be looking at a new battery. Seems that after glow plug operation, there just isn't enough left to crank. Had a heck of a time over the past 3 days getting it started.

Will check that out later today when it's actually supposed to get well above zeroF. Stay tuned.

Attention TBN members:

Someone has apparently hijacked Irving's TBN account, and is posting bogus information. 😜

The thing I was dreading the most happened today and shows that no matter what precautions you take, as I was taught in the boy scouts, you need to always be prepared, or as I like to say, always expect that the worst can happen.

I went out today and started up the tractor and back into the house to let it warm up. Everything seemed fine when I went back out after a sufficient amount of warm up time. Throttled up and the tractor wanted to die.

I knew what the problem was before I looked. Fuel in the filter housing cloudy and wax on the filter.

It has been really cold here, sub 0F. Today it was 18F when I started the tractor.

Mind you, I treat all of my fuel with the standard mount of anti-gel additive when I buy it.

I checked the fuel in the can I am currently using, no idea when it was filled, could be summer fuel, cloudy.

I checked the fuel in the other cans that I filled this month, should be winter blend, cloudy.

WTF!, fuel I've treated that I bought when winter mix should have long been in the tanks at the station should not be having an issue with clouding at 18F.

The being prepared part is the bottle of 911 and the spare filter I keep sitting on a self.

Anyway, split up my bottle of 911 between the tractor and fuel cans. Diesel cleared up. Changed the filter.
Back in operation, but what a PITA.

Added a second does of anti-gel to everything just in case.

I guess I'll need to find somewhere else to by diesel cuz I'm not going back to the place I got this crap.

Now I'm off to buy a spare filter and a new bottle of 911.

Yep, see if you have a farm supplier in your area.

I don't have to add a thing to my fuel.

Unfortunately, my choices here are limited.

GC2300 battery:
I probably did it the hard way, as usual, but I spent a number of HOURS researching that little battery in my 2310 over the past few days. (I'm just that way, I have to know.) Finally pulled it yesterday.

Here's what I've found, for future reference by others:

Made in Australia by Delkor
Model #NX100-S6SMF
Plates are a calcium-lead alloy, in a sealed (maintenance-free) case with Hydrometer window
CCA 430
45AH

And here's where it gets interesting:
Group size is JIS (Japanese Industrial Std) NS60 (237L x 128W x 225H mm)

I also searched here in this forum and concluded what others have, that the closest BCI Standard (used in the US) Group Size is 51R (238L x 129W x 223H mm).

Ray, you're a battery expert -- is it true that the calcium-lead alloy is better for vibration resistance? Should I look for that? (Are there US manufacturers that use that technology? So far I've not found out much about that.)

Appreciate the humorous comments above, but it's really true, this my GC2310's original battery. It's had an amazing life!

I have a lot of experience, but I am far am far from an expert.

It is my understanding, that vibration is your enemy in this application. And, that the actual "tractor" batteries, have been built to better handle that. But, they are hard to find, and even harder to buy at a good price.

East Penn makes the Deka, and O'Riley batteries. That's been the longest lasting Group 51 battery I have had in my GC. I think mine is 7 years old now. I bought it online at O'Riley for a decent price.

My go to Interstate brand has failed me twice in the last 10 years. With only 5 years in, my vehicle and 5 years in my GC. So, I'm using my number two option, The NAPA Legend battery in my vehicles.

There is also a vibration mat you can put under your battery, available on Amazon, which I will be adding to my GC someday. Probably doesn't do much, but it's not expensive.

That's about all I can add.

My contribution to the "humor" wasn't doubting your battery's age, it was about the idea that you would replacing it.

I’ve had good luck with the Interstate replacement for my gc2410. Original battery lasted about 7 years and was the sealed lead calcium type. I couldn’t find that kind anywhere and ended up ordering the Interstate from the local dealer. It was the highest CCA one of any available locally.
