ATV/Riding Mower bridge using materials laying around...request thoughts

Any thoughts on painting roof coating (asphalt based) on the fir beams to help them last longer?

ATV/Riding Mower bridge using materials laying around...request thoughts

For the center of the stream and possible supports, the water will not go much higher than the picture. I picked this spot because the water will rarely even get close to the bridge itself and usually will be halfway or less up to the bridge itself.

ATV/Riding Mower bridge using materials laying around...request thoughts

I have looked at the trailer route, and may do another bridge based around a trailer, but people around here want a mint for their junk. Part of the west coast extra cost tax I guess.

ATV/Riding Mower bridge using materials laying around...request thoughts

Your bridge frame is about the specs of my beams (smaller beam is 5" on one end and 7" on the other, similar to a 4x6). Free span will be about 12'. I am sure you used PT beams. I am thinking of burning the outside and then putting a natural oil on the fir beams to help preserve them...

ATV/Riding Mower bridge using materials laying around...request thoughts

Can you elaborate on how the cee purlin would be used? Are they vertical, supporting the beams? I am not following. Thanks.

Can you tell me about your center pier a little more? Is it set into the ground, in the water?

ATV/Riding Mower bridge using materials laying around...request thoughts

I am wanting to build an ATV/Riding mower creek bridge with some of the materials I have lying around. The bridge would be 16' long and 4' wide, with an unsupported portion of about 12'. I have been toying working with a windfall fir tree that I cut in half for the beams. These are shown...

    Burn piles

Cleaning up the property from poor practice logging done 15 years ago. They left massive piles that were supposed to rot, but should have been smaller and more spread out. I’ve had to torch some of them just to access areas. What a mess!

Front mount ATV paddock topper and light duty rough/slope terrain brush mower

Another update. I had a chance to take the unit with my old Honda ATV over some really thick 2'+ tall fescue. It did ok if I went really, really slow. The right mower tended to stall out a lot. I think it could not discharge to the side very well (there is a 2X6" there that is the frame) and...

    Kohler magnum throttle problem

I adjusted the governor and that improved things a lot. However, it now surges at high RPM. I tried to set it at about 3600 RPM, but it is hard to tell from the surging. At idle and in the middle throttle, no surging at all. Thoughts on what to try next? Here is what it sounds like.

    Kohler magnum throttle problem

In this video you can't hear me talking, but the problem is the throttle is very touchy. I barely touch it and it launches to full throttle. I tried lubricating several parts of the cable and linkages. It seemed to help a little. Is there anything else I can do to smooth it out?? I am basically...

Front mount ATV paddock topper and light duty rough/slope terrain brush mower

Finally had a chance to take the machine AKA "Dual Red" out. It has been super, super wet here in pacific northwest and finally had a dry day to try it. It exceeded my expectations. Having no mulching and just a flat deck, means the material just gets shredded, I heard no bogging down of the...

Front mount ATV paddock topper and light duty rough/slope terrain brush mower

Yes, offset would be better, but I had measured my cheap craftsman rider with a two spindle deck and found about 1/4" blade gap between the blade tips...I went with 3/8" to ensure the blades don't crash into each other. I am not looking for a perfect look...just knock down the weeds and seed...

Front mount ATV paddock topper and light duty rough/slope terrain brush mower

Got it to a working level now. Time to try it out this Spring. On to other projects now. Will report and try to make a video of it going. I am afraid tow behind will be best configuration to work.

Front mount ATV paddock topper and light duty rough/slope terrain brush mower

I was able to get it more or less complete and hooked it up to the front of the ATV (after attaching a mount to front of ATV) I tried it out and discovered quickly that steering it uphill is very difficult as Oz_Kioti stated. Going downhill is fine. I was trying to get uphill and the...

Front mount ATV paddock topper and light duty rough/slope terrain brush mower

I did some looking online (Youtube) for what people had done for a front mount ATV mower. I just started hacking this together and making up the design as I went along. I am not a fabber, not a welder, just like DIY (or being cheap) and try to learn what I can by making mistakes and improving...

Sure sign of winter....B7200 content ;-)

Nice work and efficiently done. I’m up in the PNW where we get a dusting of snow once or twice. It melts off in a day or so. Sometimes it can linger longer, but not worth getting a blower. I always wonder what it is like to have this winter chore.

    Is Rural Living a Hobby?

It is a hobby for me. Any excuse to get outside to do “work” is good to go. Woods, mowing, feeding animals, fencing, bridges, cleanup, mending, repairing, cutting, etc. I’ve lost 20 lbs walking/working around the 18 acres since moving here after two years. Best lifestyle I can imagine.

Has anyone delt with SG Equipment in Dundee OR?

Hi Tony. Welcome to the forum. I live in Oregon City area and figuring things out myself as well. We are off Redland Rd and Henrici. Member JohnDeere3720 has training in diesel mechanics and lives up in Banks. You may want to get in touch with him. He has been fixing up some Yanmars and...

Might be getting back into a Yanmar

Got out the flapper disc to see what might happen...I think it might work. A little bit of naval jelly and some steel wool should finish off the tight spots. I am thinking of painting it Yanmar red.

YM186D Wheel flip and hub adjustment

It was that way when I got it. Evidently, when the damage was on the inside edge, someone didn’t keep the lower 3pt arms from swaying too far out. The lower arms then caused the damage.

YM186D Wheel flip and hub adjustment

I got around to flipping the hubs and wheels. The inside of the dishes were just primed grey, so I painted them Yanmar Off-white color. Now the rim mounts to the outside of the hubs with the dish side out. Still waiting for paint to dry and take for a test drive. Even though the manual does...

Might be getting back into a Yanmar

Johndeere3720 came over last week to run his Bobcat T62 + brush hog over a lot of blackberries on the property we bought last year. YM186D Wheel flip and hub adjustment

Any reason why I could not mount the rims on the outside of the hub once the hub is installed? This would be in the more traditional manner that rims mount to hubs. I have never seen them mounted inside the hub flange like that. So, the order of operation would be: 1. remove hub and rim from...

bmaverick, I actually called that manufacturer enquiring about the custom ROPS that Fredericks had them design (Family 2 ROPS). The mfg. said the tooling is gone and can not make them. We do have rapid prototyping technologies now that you could laser cut the steel and weld together that you...

bmaverick, thanks for the encouragement, I will keep looking. I may post a want ad here on TBN to get the word out. Is there an appropriate place for that? It is too bad the Farmland outfit would not sell me the modified ones, that would be something to start with to fab something.

First of all Johndeere3720 is a class act! Great guy to deal with and extremely talented! Highly recommend him and his work! Love the tractor...but had a setback. I'm a novice user and with the hills here, want to add a roll bar to the YM186D for extra sanity check and safety, especially...

Hi neighbor. I'm down in Oregon City and I actually called the guy on that machine to ask about it, before he got back to me, SOLD! Guess I was not fast enough! Enjoy! I'll probably find a machine with a little bit bigger rear wheels. Maybe up to a YM2020D series. The terrain here is so...

Tires  Sotah/Mitsubishi S373D Beaver III front tires 5-12 vs 5.00-12

My manual states that for a Sotah/Mitsubishi S373D Beaver III the 5-12 is correct for ag front tire. Currently, there is a very worn (not tread!) 5.00-12 Bridgstone (factory original?) tire and a 5.00-12 Starmaxx tire that had holes drilled in it :confused2: Anyhow, should I replace both with...

Tractor Sizing  What size of older Yanmar do I need?

I am realizing that the 16 hp (13 pto) old Mitsubishi Beaver that I purchased will not be enough horse power to do what I need and it has no ROPS (I have hills) with no aftermarket ROPS available. New to me house with 3 acre pasture in front...found a deep, deep skinny hole! Ideas?

I have a new to me pasture in front of the house that slopes down to the road. It is about 3 acres. I was walking around inspecting it and found a very deep hole filled with water. The hole was about 10" diameter but very, very deep. I have never seen anything like it. I did not want to push...

Buying Advice  Flail mower/Brush Hog recommendations for Beaver III 373D

Hi, I recently was able to fix the 3pt lift on my Beaver III. I was wondering if any of you can recommend a flail mower? The primary purpose is to mow about an acre of grass that is mostly groomed, but a little too rough in some spots for a riding mower to comfortably run. The secondary...

3-Point Hitch Three point hitch stuck up position. Hydraulic cylinder stuck? Beaver III tractor

I pulled off the piston assembly today. I can see the piston is nicely stuck and protruding. I assume it is the entire round thing I am pointing to in the picture. No amount of pounding is getting anywhere. I noticed a "plug" that I can see in the other picture. That would give me good...

3-Point Hitch  Three point hitch stuck up position. Hydraulic cylinder stuck? Beaver III tractor

My new to me Beaver III is receiving lots of good service, almost replaced all fluids and applicable filters. One thing that I knew going in pre-purchase was the three point lift is stuck in the up position. I did some work recently on it and removed the piston cover to get a view in there...

New to me Beaver III, advice for my plans.

Filled it with new hydraulic fluid last night. I cleaned the filter, which did have some metal "sludge" build up, but nothing really bad. The tractor started nicely after sitting for a while and front loader works great. I then re-checked the hydralic fluid level (taking out the little check...

New to me Beaver III, advice for my plans.

One of the front tires has been replaced. The other side is pretty worn down, but I might run with it for a while. One of the back tires looks in bad shape with sidewall gone. Could I just replace the one tire or do they need to be in pairs?
