Storage building choices: monitor barn vs. clear span structure

I think you better determine your budget then build as big as you can within that budget. The barn in my avatar has a 45' middle section (clear span) wouldn't want it any other way. Good luck and make sure to post pictures of the build.

Hay Farmers getting out of farming

I'm curious about the old timers selling out and retiring. What are the buyers doing with the land/equipment? My first thought would be farming the land. But maybe not. As to this thread; I retired then bought 31 acres in Southeast Idaho. I grow hay and I sell everything right out of the field...

I was told on our last pour that concrete was going up 15 bucks a yard January 1st. One other reason I pushed to get it all done last year.

    The last Barn. (maybe)

FYI, my total concrete cost was $28,700 and the rebar was not included in that figure. Things are very expensive right now. I debated on waiting until this year but there's no reason to believe anything will be any cheaper. Also my finish guy only charged $1 buck a square foot to finish which...

Thanks Eddie, If good insulation is your goal these panels might not be the best way to go. I would put in actual windows that you can insulate up next too. If I ever insulate and heat this barn it will be with a used oil heater so leaking lots of heat out of these panels won't be such a big...

Now that the outside is completely done it's time to get the inside how I want it. I needed a place to store firewood and a heated place for the tractor. Rebar was pulled up while pouring, they had a guy dedicated to doing that. Most of the concrete was 4.5-5" thick, up in the front and middle of the barn it was 5.5-6" thick. Buying Advice I want to buy a new Tier 4 tractor this year!

Interesting, I have a neighbor that has a M7 and would never buy another one. Has had factory reps checking it out several times but claim he is overworking it. It stalls out pulling a 4 bottom plow. With 170 plus HP that should not be a problem. Lighter work and loader work he is happy with it.

I have a Kioti and cannot complain (66hp) as far as the reliability. I'm doing the type of work you listed and would love a bigger tractor. That said, if I get another tractor it will have a buddy/instructor seat. Not sure if you've thought about that. Grandkids love riding in the tractor.
