Tractor for land clearing and preparation

Yes it is. There are smaller ones still heavy enough to chop up stumps and tree stems. My main point is 300 acres is little to much for low horsepower lightweight gear. Both time wise and job properly done for putting the land into cultivation. This will also apply for working the land...

Tractor for land clearing and preparation

First off consider your costs by the acre for completion. For 300 acres the tractors you are looking at may be too small for the initial work and for the ensuing farm cultivation. I’d suggest about a D8 with tooth rake pulling a very heavy breaking disk for the original work.

The thermistors have been a problem in the past and their performance may vary. I’ve had a lot of thermistor problems with my JD 4200. Could not find it as it was well hidden inside of a cable bundle. They control the amperage to the injection pump for start up and long time running.

How does an HST compare in pulling power with the same tractor and a gear trans?

There are also times the when the load is moving and traction gets lost that with the HST you can back off but keep the rpm’s and available torque up.
  149. Egon

How does an HST compare in pulling power with the same tractor and a gear trans?

Either you apply full torque almost instantaneously ( clutch ) or it can be applied as needed to retain traction as with an HST.

Front brush on tractor. Like is used to clean asphalt prior to paving.
  151. Egon

How does an HST compare in pulling power with the same tractor and a gear trans?

It’s all about torque delivery control to start a load moving without traction loss which a HST can do much better.
  152. Egon

Perplexed - loss of power during day, more power at night.

Cooler denser air at night. Perhaps higher moisture content too.
  153. Egon

How does an HST compare in pulling power with the same tractor and a gear trans?

When it comes to the ultimate load being pulled the HST will probably win out. HST will retrain traction better at the start.

I believe it’s a fungal infection of some sort. We had them on a previous lawn. They seem to do better on poor and dry soil. The grass turns brown and basically dies. They do keep getting bigger.
