Electric vehicles during a disaster

Maybe the folks up north don't know what we're talking about when we call it electricity. I guess it depends on what school you go to. The school I went to called it electricity.

Ahhh, I remember the 1970's gas rationing well. That was back in the day when they had attendants to pump your gas. The odd, even plate plan may not work as well with today's self serve pumps and vanity plates with no numbers. It would rely more on the honor system and unfortunately, there are many out there that have none. This would be especially true during slow periods when there isn't anyone around to do the ass kicking. 🙂
Pay by credit card only and the even odd thing would be history.

our roads will have to be repaved with plastic in order to satisfy the loudest Greenies with an efficiency mandate, followed by regulations that eliminate brake systems in all vehicles, because that's where the energy is being wasted. W
Just adding a lot of micro plastics to the environment. Just like the tire particles. Electric brake systems just may work a whole lot better than imagined And be more reliable.

In areas effected by natural disasters where there can be wide spread power outages....obviously charging stations will be useless...
...So, will "they" deploy big diesel powered generator trucks to charge EVs??

"They" are really pushing people to go electric here... distributing all of that "free" federal money in an attempt to "Go Green." One thing I'm not sure of is where all of those cars are coming from. Another is how they are going to be charged in outages... considering that one power company in the state is currently rated as "Worst in the nation."

I've been thinking about a PTO generator, so if I ended up with something electric it would be charged by diesel in a disaster.

A business opportunity there, I'll rent them space for their tractors, not doing the horses or chickens though.
My grandfather allowed a lady to keep horses on his land. She had to feed and take care of them. They kept the pasture tamed, and he enjoyed watching them. Plus, he got a sizable reduction to his property taxes.

Now, if she couldn't make it to the farm to feed them due to weather or some other issue (car broked down, flat), then all she had to do was call.

Granted, this was from the early 80's to around 04'.

Really wouldn't fly with today's entitled sue happy crowd.

There are plenty of copper thieves for those extension cords. Can't leave them unattended. Back to gas station model.
Don't get me started on copper thieves. I dropped a water pump off at a sewer lift station. As I was pulling up with the pump, the meat wagon was just leaving with a body. Guy was so desperate for his fix that he cut a 480 line going to an electric pump with a pair of bolt cutters. It was live.

On call guy for the sewer department found him when he responded to the outage.

Certain areas, they would have to really put some thought into how they would keep some knucklehead from running off with an ev charger.

Not just natural disasters to consider. The recent wave of power station sabotage events may well become a copycat thing. Certainly something terrorists will consider on a larger scale. If so, nowhere will be immune from wide spread power outages.

A system of transportation that depends on electricity will just make the grid a bigger target.

Well, if that is what you believe then you should convert to EV right now!

If "The Grid" goes down, and/or the delicate supply chain of petroleum energy, the only alternative is off-grid PV solar. Can burn trees for heat but can not produce a gasoline or diesel substitute. A solar PV system equal in cost to an EV can power home and vehicle.
