Electric vehicles during a disaster

Right there's a perfect example.

You have to take your laundry down to the laundry room or laundry mat just like you'll have to take your EV to a charging station (gas station).
These are all things which can be worked out. If somebody wants to drive an electric car, that is their choice. This country was formed on tenets which allow that. When somebody tells me that I HAVE to drive one though, that's not OK. As you and others have pointed out, an EV comes with it's own set of problems. If the assets outweigh the down sides, they will become more common.

I am not convinced they are any more "Green". However, I will leave it at that, since this isn't the place where political discussions are allowed.

I will throw out a can of worms: Does anyone know of someone owning/driving a Toyota hydrogen fueled cars in CA? I think it is called a Mirai. Or should this be a separate thread? Jon

A business opportunity there, I'll rent them space for their tractors, not doing the horses or chickens though.
Exactly. If apartment dwellers want a service then they rent an apartment or separate service which provides. Not all apartments provide any place to park an automobile.

IIRC they were leased so Toyota could take them back when they decided to quit supporting.

Which goes back to there's a gas station on every corner, a laundry room on most apartments, but no chargers. No matter what you think, there's never going to NOT be a gas station mentality for apartment dwellers or on-street parker's anytime soon when it comes to EVs.

There are plenty of electrical outlets.

I (vaguely) know three owners, but the Mirai has a very limited range, (IIRC, 100miles) and locally there are only three fueling stations within 50 miles or so, last I checked. One of the fueling stations has skid mounted hydrogen tanks that get swapped out every so often. Another has a hydrogen generator from natural gas.

After you get over the cool factor of the steam exhaust, I would take an EV any day because I can "fuel" an EV at home, or during an emergency.

All the best,

Peter

Why I asked, I have a Tundra and a Sienna van and receive Toyota's ads. Noticed a Mirai listed and saw it was a hydrogen fueled vehicle sold in CA. Just wondered how popular they are, and the salesman at the dealer keeps praising hydrogeninstead of EV. Thanks for the info. Jon
