Because in Canada, they call the electric "hydro".

Yes. During WWI, the depression, WWII, the 1970's, and maybe more I can't think of, they had gas rationing. It wasn't difficult at all. The one I lived through in the 1970s, was pretty simple. If your license plate ended in an even number you could buy gas on an even day. Odd number, odd day. If you tried to do otherwise, people in line would kick your ass. Pretty simple.

Ahhh, I remember the 1970's gas rationing well. That was back in the day when they had attendants to pump your gas. The odd, even plate plan may not work as well with today's self serve pumps and vanity plates with no numbers. It would rely more on the honor system and unfortunately, there are many out there that have none. This would be especially true during slow periods when there isn't anyone around to do the ass kicking.

In the 70's motorcycles did not have to play odd/even - freedom for us rebels. Pretty sure there will be ass kicking at the EV chargers as well.

They would have to, since the clerk inside is to busy ringing up lottery tickets, beer and cigarettes' to do it.

There was self serve in Washington state in the 70's and they didn't need an attendant to administer the ass kicking, i kinda remember cops being called a few times to help cool things down.

I remember a story once during the rationing days about somebody who thought he would cut in line. The attendant was fed up and allegedly sprayed the customer with gas, pulled out a lighter and told him he’d better get out of there.

First time i heard about the "hydro" going out, i was talking to my cousin, i thought they were talking about some hydraulic thingy, then a bit more into the conversation, it occurred to me it was the electric power they had been referring to. Then the conversation about why a pipe froze, made much more sense.
