Rebuilt transmissions (2) and paint & body work are the only major expenses of this 32 year old truck - spread over the time I've owned it that's $375 per year. That's pretty cheap.Inflation calculators put $25,000 as equivalent to $56,000 today. $56,000 would buy the same kind of truck today. And comparing a 6.7 to a 7.3 idi isn’t even close to fair. Comparing a modern day gas burner to that is much more fair. If government regulations were relaxed and Ford was allowed to build a modern day exact replica of that truck it wouldn’t cost much more than the original $25,000. Old school vehicles weren’t as cheap as people think.
This truck has pulled a 3 ton travel trailer from Maine to Sinaloa Mexico 5 times and to Yellowstone and points west another 5 times. Even though it's 170 HP it would tow 3 tons on level ground 80 mph. Time will tell how newer diesel engines in pickup trucks will age.
With present day labor and materials costs there's no way this '93 could be built today for $25,000 with the current US dollar worth 125% less than a USD was worth in 1993.
