That's just the latest twist. It started as a ding against Dodge for using coils, a few pages back.

Yes, they fail, but are far less costly to repair than an air suspension.

I replaced an air bag on my Grand Cherokee for about $100.00, taking less than an hour. If I had a broken leaf spring I would need to also replace the other side and it's, very unlikely they could be bought for $100.00. Labour would also take longer.

I bought this 7.3 IDI new in '93 for $25,000. I've kept up with the mechanical, exterior, and interior. If it breaks down I have a good chance of getting it going again - the only computer in it controls the transmission. Rust started bubbling over the rear wheel arches after 10 winters - had all that fixed and now try to keep it off sloppy, treated winter roads. It is tight, handles well and reliable.

My Ram is 3 years older than yours. The hvac temperature control is buttons which I don’t like either. Ford has a twist knob for temperature which I like better. In the spring and fall when it’s 40 in the morning and 80 in the afternoon it’s a lot faster to go between heat and cool with the dial.

Curiously, are there additional heater controls that aren't shown in the photo? How do you select floor vs dash vents vs defrost?

There is a button on there for defrost. I don’t like floor vents so I never change it but if you want to you have to hit the controls button on the screen and it brings up the options.

Inflation calculators put $25,000 as equivalent to $56,000 today. $56,000 would buy the same kind of truck today. And comparing a 6.7 to a 7.3 idi isn’t even close to fair. Comparing a modern day gas burner to that is much more fair. If government regulations were relaxed and Ford was allowed to build a modern day exact replica of that truck it wouldn’t cost much more than the original $25,000. Old school vehicles weren’t as cheap as people think.
