Why wouldn't you buy a chainsaw from Home Depot?

I am a self confessed chainsaw addict. I am not brand loyal but have a few saws that I favor.

The two that go with me back into my woods is the Husky 562XP and the Echo 2511T.

I will admit I love that little 2511T. If I bought any Echo saw, it would be one of their top handles. I'm running a Husqvarna 435T now, again because it had highest power/weight ratio of any of the top handles at the time I was buying, but I really don't love that saw.

And I'm not telling the OP to ignore Echo. You can get a reliable 60cc Echo for $500, which is a bargain, especially if you're not using it very frequently. I'm just refuting the idea that it's in any way similar to a 60cc Stihl MS-362 or Husqvarna 562XP, both closer to $900, because it's just not. You're comparing an E-class to a Camry, if you believe they are.

Why wouldn't you buy a chainsaw from Home Depot?

I like supporting my local shop. Plus, if it ever needed warranty work it seems the local shop moves products to the end of the line that weren't purchased from them.

Same here. I bought both of my Echo's from a small town dealer near me. As well as a Toro zero turn. His prices are as competitive as the big box stores and he and his wife know the products.

Agreed. Also, even those of us who do our own repair sometimes can use some help on diagnosis, and I'd feel awful sheepish taking a saw bought at a big box store to the knowledgeable local dealer, asking for their help on it.

Nice. I've spent a lot of money with my local shop and am considered a VIP customer, so I seem to get moved to the front of the line when it comes time for repairs. So far I've purchased lawn tractor, walk behind mower, Ferris zero turn, Echo backpack blower, Echo trimmer, Kioti tractor and brush mower, lots of oil, saw chains, etc.

Understandable, but I think all dealers are the same way. Tough to compete with prices you find on Amazon, but that applies to just about everything not just mower or saw parts

You probably won't have any issues with it anyway so just go and purchase it and be happy.

You can say what you want about the electric saws but my 500I is my favorite chainsaw that I own. I dug up a 400c Stihl with an electric carburetor that accidentally got buried months ago and it fired up and ran after I cleaned it up.

I bought a Stihl 261CM 5 years ago and it's been one of the best running saws I've ever owed. The electric carb keeps it in tune easily and it never fails to start by pull 3 even on the coldest day. If a guy only owned one saw for casual cutting, the 261CM would be the one I would recommend. The electronic carbs don't scare me in the least....

I bought the Echo CS-590 Saturday morning from Home Depot. I haven't been there on a Saturday in awhile, and it was really bad. Not enough people working there, too much junk in all the isles, and the chainsaws are all locked up. I waited my turn for the guy to come and unlock it, and take it to the cashier to hold for me. Seems like big crime has made it to Tyler Texas.

I bought a can of Husqvarna premixed fuel because I was walking down the isle in Lowes and saw it, so I bought it. It has an octane rating of 95. I didn't compare the other brands to see what their octane rating was, but I did look at the pump that sells Ethanol free gasoline. It's 91 octane. The Supreme which is on the same hose as the 87 and 89 octane fuel has Ethanol. If I buy the Ethanol free gas, which has it's own hose, it's a lot less octane then the canned stuff, but it's only $3.50 a gallon plus the oil, compared to $30 for the Husqvarna fuel. Is the higher octane rating noticeable or needed? I'm committed to never using fuel with Ethanol in this saw, I'm just not sure if $30 a gallon for gas is being smart or wasteful?

I've only used the saw for an hour to cut up some rounds. It started easy, it's a lot lighter then what I'm used to, and it has a bunch of power. I like that the fuel tank is semi transparent so I can see how much fuel is in there. I thought about the muffler modification, but I don't see the need to modify anything just the way it is. I'll know more by the end of the year, but my first impressions are very good. It was $419 that I'm happy with spending that amount of money.

20" bar Eddie?

All the Echo factory supplied bar's have greaseable roller noses btw. I grease them prior to putting them away. In reality, all the 'canned' fuel is good except maybe the Stihl canned fuel, I keep reading that Stihl canned fuel produces a lot of carbon in the exhaust port and clogs the EPA mandated spark arrestor screen in the muffle pretty quick but I don't know for sure because I only use either Red Armor or Tru-Fuel canned fuel, never Stihl so that is only what I read and not from actual experience and we all know that in reality, what others comment on, may not be what you experience.

I too find Home Despot to be a junky store as well. Aisles are all cluttered up with stuff and sales associates are slim and none.

Run the saw for a while before modifying anything. Give it at least 4 tank's on fuel and bar oil before fiddling with it at all. Echo saws are pretty tight from the factory and take a while to 'break in'

One thing to note and that is, follow the starting instruction in the owner manual carefully because deviation from the starting procedure can cause it to flood and be hard starting.

Once it's broken in, I'm pretty sure it will exceed you expectations.

You can use the recoil handle to loosen the fuel and bar oil caps as well. Kind of a nice feature, beats using a 'Scrench' to break them loose.

Yes, it has the 20 inch bar.

I think the chain is too tight, but I left it like it was. There isn't any slack in it at all. I didn't know about the greaseable roller nose. I'll have to look into it. I didn't grease anything.

One thing that caught my attention was the smell of it while it was running. I was the same as an outboard motor out on the lake. It's hard to describe, but very recognizable. I've never smelled that with my other chainsaws, and I wonder if it's the canned fuel?

Eddie, while we're spending your money, I'm certain that you have cordless tools and you know that (mostly) buying a new tool with batteries, the tool is usually close to free if you count the cost of the batteries by themselves.
I'm married to Makita, Amazon had a little saw that came with 4-5amp batteries that all my other tools use. Of course this included the saw and a dual charger for $350.
With no illusions of the battery saws capability I figured I couldn't go wrong.
Well every tool has its "place" and I'm impressed with it for little stuff. It's always put in the Gator for driving around my land, and it sips bar oil because it only pumps when the chain is spinning so you don't have to carry anything but the saw. I put it in the truck for wind storms knocking trees over but that's probably not a concern in TX.
I know guys with Milwaukee and Dewalt that appreciate theirs as well.
They're not going to compete with the big guys battery saws, but I don't expect it to and the last thing I want is another line of batteries to keep up with.

Why I purchase the Harbor Freight Bauer chainsaw. One I have quite a few Bauer 20 volt cordless tools (and none have failed me so far I might add) and I have quite a few Bauer 20 volt batteries, mostly the 3 and 5 amp packs, so the Bauer 20 volt chainsaw for my wife was a no brainer. The Bauer cordless chainsaw comes with an Oregon Bar and chain loop (and I bought a spare loop as well) and it only pumps bar oil when the chain is moving plus, it has a rather large tank for bar oil.

For 59 bucks (tool only), it's hard to beat so long as you already have the batteries, like I do.

I don't mind starting gas saw but my wife requires something that don't need fuel to run.
