Just use Grade 8 bolts...Pros or cons to adding the bolt on hooks?

Pro: the backer plate could be a clevis mount, so you got hooks on top, clevises on the underside of the top of the bucket.Pros or cons to adding the bolt on hooks?
When I first started welding I told my uncle that I couldn't draw a very good bead and he said, "That's what they make angle grinder for." I'm a lot better now but still need the angle grinder on some of them.I did three on mine, as well. Two on ends are used with a 10' loop of 5/16" choker chain for lifting whole logs, or when my approach to something that needs to come from one side or the other. The one in the middle is used for pretty much everything else.
You could run a slack chain between the two side hooks, if you were lacking a middle hook, but it multiplies the side force on the side hooks, by the angle of your dangle.
Don't laugh at my welds, these were done blind with flux core, before I had my MIG set up with proper gas.

Probbly not many as with either welded or bolted the stress you put on hooks is up to you and how much damage you willing to cause to bucket....Pros or cons to adding the bolt on hooks?
Hooks aren't limited to something in the bucket...they're handy for lifting items, no matter the shape. Last time I used the hooks was to pull split rail fence posts out of the ground (2½-3 feet in the ground)get forks. They don't have hooks the bucket because the bucket isn't designed for loading on that area.
I have 3 grab hooks on my bucket. It has been mentioned before but I don't like hooks in the middle, it seems it would be the ideal place for one, but it is the weakest part of the bucket. If you chose to put one in the center be sure you to but reinforcement on top or under the lip of the bucket. I have seen many loader with hooks in the center and the bucket lip is bent down, even heavy duty loader buckets.
I added bolt on hooks at the outside edges of the top and welded up a 2 inch receiver that bolts to the tractor frame for spotting a trailer or heavy pulls. The pull is more in line with the axles. Too easy to bend the top of the bucket with a center hook.Pros or cons to adding the bolt on hooks?
In line with the loader arms would be best, IMHO...I bought some bolt on hooks from Amazon. They come with reinforcing plates and bolts. I am currently deciding where to locate them on the tractor bucket.

Yep. And the "load" on the hooks becomes a side load, rather than a straight pull in the direction of the hook load. No big deal if it's a light load. It's easy to lift from the center with 2 side hooks if you have a hook on your chain. Think triangle with the chain end hook in the center.
Yep, that's how I lift heavy loads if I only need one hook! It's easy to lift from the center with 2 side hooks if you have a hook on your chain. Think triangle with the chain end hook in the center.
It should not have to be a light load. If the hooks cant take an side load equal to what they can take straight on then they are substandard or improperly installed. Sorry but it's true and I'm not going to argue it.Yep. And the "load" on the hooks becomes a side load, rather than a straight pull in the direction of the hook load. No argument here. Simple physics. It should not have to be a light load. If the hooks cant take an side load equal to what they can take straight on then they are substandard or improperly installed. Sorry but it's true and I'm not going to argue it.
I had my Terex 640 14 yrs using the hooks the same way, even lifting the rear off the ground many times against a chained load. Very heavy 14k pound tractor - no hook problems.
I got your hooks man, I like them a lot. I also like that you engage here, share info and stuff, and contribute...as opposed to just being on here to sell your stuff.USA made ones...Support small business and not Bezos and China:
