Anybody have any ideas for a waterline plow? I have one that I got from a relative many years ago and it works only if the ground is fairly soft. Not sure what it needs to get it to dig deeper. Making several trips back and forth helps but way from idea. I'll post pictures tomorrow, but it looks like a big shank about 24-30" long. The bottom hook is about 6" long and 3/4 - 1" wide w a V shaped top about 2 - 2-1/2" wide at the rear. It weights about 100lbs by its self and I've put about 150lbs of weight on it. When you pull it it easily goes 6-8" deep and want to stop digging. I thought about welding a modified plow sweep or something on it. Any advise appreciated or pictures of what others have made is appreciated.

3PH do not usually supply down pressure ... Try adding more weight to plow.... Of course the deeper you plow the more HP you are going to need....

Thanks,
I've added about 150 lbs of weight I may need to add more. One of the lines I plowed in for a neighbor he would ride on the back that did help but still minimal.

Yes the angle does make a difference I've tried and it helps.

Attached are a few pictures.

I think the issue is that you need a point on the end to suck the plow down. This is a photo of a Vermeer cable plow, notice how it has a tip to pull the shank into the ground.

Below is a TSC subsoiler, notice how it has a point. You could do something like this for your waterline plow and it would help pull it in the ground and stay in the ground.

With a tip like this and a hydraulic toplink you can control depth easily. Retract the toplink to make the tooth angle agressive, then extend it to level it off to keep it from digging too deep.

It does have a hook, maybe its too small.

jwmorris,
that's a nice looking piece. Its hard to make out what the digging points look like.

Sportsman762,
I do have a hydraulic toplink but its on a different tractor. The small tractor I have this on is 4wheel drive and pulls like crazy. I tried it on my other tractor and little difference.

I think I will weld a piece onto the bottom hook and make it a little longer and wider.
Thanks for the advise!!

if that picture is how it is sitting now it would appear that you need to shorten the top link so the heel of that isn’t touching the ground.

Suspect want the main shank close to vertical

It's a ripper tooth with a "toeless boot" letting the line out the back at a suitable radius.

I put a blade in front of the ripper on my gopher plow to help as well. The swingarm/wheel is adjustable so I can set the depth the poison is distributed (note 3/4" bolt on swong arm under hopper).

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll be adding a larger tooth onto my foot.
I have pulled wiring in with mine and used a piece is flex conduit that was hose clamped to the plow. I mounted the wire spool on a piece of conduit attached to my rollover post, work great (soft ground). Again thanks for the advise.

I added to the foot and it digs much much better.
Your're right WranglerX you need more power. Its about all my little ford 1700 wants.
Thanks again for the advise!
