Happy birthday Dragon,

I made 60 in August 2005 and a couple weeks later Katrina hit. I owned too much property at that time. I closed down my air conditioning shop I had for 38 years and went to work repairing all of my hurricane damage by myself as help was impossible to find. I replaced 7 roofs, cut up, removed, burned over 100 trees, replaced, repaired a mile of livestock fencing, repaired a couple of trailers that were smashed by trees and built a couple of new sheds in the next 2 years working an average of 10 hours a day with only 2 weeks off when I went trail riding in the Ozarks for some much needed rest. Too much minor work to list.

I had not been to a doctor in years and was on no medications. A year later I went to the doc and got prescriptions for high blood pressure and cholesterol. Got a little lazier and gained about 20 pounds in the next 10 years and at 72 decided to go to the gym on a regular basis and get back in shape. In the next 2 years I lost about 30 pounds of fat and gained about 10 pounds of muscle and felt like the healthiest 74 year old in the world and could outwork any 50 year old I knew. Six months later I had a heart attack due to a blocked artery and had a double bypass to my heart. Now, 10 months later, I just built another shed by myself and am back doing all the chores I did before except I have lost about 15 pounds of muscle and gained about 30 pounds of fat again. I feel like I am 10 years older than before my attack, much weaker, more back problems and have to rest more often when working but still plodding along and enjoying each day I wake up. I realize how precious life is now, how I am much luckier than many of my friends who I lost years ago and am living in a way that I feel like no one will have anything bad to say about me when I'm gone. (except maybe the friend who I don't leave my tractor to)

Few years ago I was having chronic lower back pain. My MD said before getting out of bed in the morning roll onto your stomach. Lift your head/shoulders and feet/knees off the bed and hold for as long as you can. He can hold for 2 minutes. I tried it. Totally sucked and immediately was painful. But I stuck with it for a couple months and the chronic pain went away. When I start being bothered with it I start that exercise again until it improves. I've paid attention to the things I do that help or contribute to that pain. Too much sitting is my worst.

Stopped by to wish de bonne fete, learned a simple/killer exercise. Got my TBN bonus this week

Tried that this morning on the carpet. Could feel it right away, and really started to feel it about 1/2 way through..... made 1'20", gritting my teeth. Spent yesterday finishing the mouse-damage repair on a wiring harness under the hood of a small car; could feel the vertical muscle in my right leg backing down quite a bit after that floor-Superman stretch.

That one's a keeper. I like simple exercises like that, easy to do (meaning a bit harder for me to find excuses :D) at home regularly.

Fortunately I emailed this one to a buddy of mine...... tough to dig up today searching on Y.....

#1 Stretch for Low Back Pain & Sciatica - YouTube

It's a modified plus4, but that one additional move really hits the mark (pun not intended de)....

Thanks Richard & Dave! Going to make those two a routine. I think I might set a daily or twice daily reminder alarm on my watch. Now I just have to remember why I set the alarm!
