You sound like we have the same neighbors/friends that feel:
"Well, you're retired & have nothing else to do, anyway."
Now, I know they don't say it but in the back of their minds.
It's:
"I'll just give the old codger something to do. So he won't feel that we don't need him anymore."
OR
"I would've done it but...Say, can you help me here? Unless you have something else important to do?"
{Like how am I supposed to respond to that?}
We all love our friends/neighbors but ask around this group of retirees as to how many of us has heard any or all of these?

BTW, George, as to your back. My bottom 5 vertebrae and top 4 are all fused and, Yep @ 70 life is still pretty sweet.
No matter how much I wail, spit and moan.
One more birthday still beats the alternative.
My friends and neighbors? I love them all

I've only had 2 birthdays, the day I was born and the day I was born again!

I stand corrected.

Did you claim it on your income tax as a home improvement?

It DID turn out to be a "home improvement".......but at the time it was very traumatic!

Belated happy birthday Dragoneggs. I wish I was 60 again. I'll be 68 toward the end of this month.
I just came in from the garage after installing a new clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, pilot and throw-out bearing in my buddies 1955 Chevy truck.
My back didn't bother me all day while working but it sure does now. Glad I have ibuprofen, just have to wait for it to kick in.
500 mg Naproxen(prescription) or 2 aleve non prescription Naproxen works much better.. the only thing that works perfectly is Oxycontin, if you can get a prescription for it that is!. it was demonized, but if you need something, you should be able to get it!..

Nice pic, is that your daughter?

Ha ha... I will be sure to share your question with my wife. Hopefully she will get a kick out of it... after she kicks me for posting a pic of her! :duh:

Who's that young man in the pic?

Happy Birthday Mark!!!

I'll turn 69 next month. I have no idea where those nine years went...... Seems like yesterday I was 60.....
That is me on a good day!

Thanks to all that sent kind wishes. And to the rest of you that put up with me as well. Felt good... didn't help my back though. :D

And to all you chuckleheads that picked up on my Freudian slip about waking up stiff... I got a good laugh after a reread my post. Funny what a missing comma can do!

Your health is your wealth says my 95 year old neighbor who is the neighborhood go-to person...

Drives, brings seniors to Dr appointments and shopping and qualifies each year for his Concealed Weapon...

A lot to learn from most seasoned citizens...

Yeah. Stay away from that unless you're rolling on the floor curled up in a ball in pain. It works. The directions say something about 1 every X hours and the Dr. tells you to keep taking it until the pain doesn't come back. It takes about 30-40 minutes to take effect on me, then Aaaahhhh no pain for 4-5 hours. Then the pain comes back, you're back on the floor holding your head, you take it again and you're in pain for another 30-40 minutes, then Aaaahhhh for another 4-5 hours. Then the pain comes back, you're back on the floor holding your head, you take it again and you're in pain for another 30-40 minutes, then Aaaahhhh for another 4-5 hours. Then the pain comes back, you're back on the floor holding your head, you take it again and you're in pain for another 30-40 minutes, then Aaaahhhh for another 4-5 hours.

After about the 3rd or 4th round of pain, you don't want to wait for the pain to come back, because you know how much it hurts, so like clockwork, you take it at 4 hour intervals, and you're scared not to take it, because the pain might come back. Guess what? You're hooked in just a day or two.

At least that's how it worked for me. I realized it was becoming addictive that fast, so I called the Dr. and asked for something else. Forget what it was, but it didn't work as well, but wasn't nearly as scary.

So be careful with that stuff if it's ever prescribed for you. It works almost too well.

My drug of choice for severe pain in the hospital is nubain. The Dr. shoots you up, then checks on you half an hour later:

Dr.: "Do you still have pain?"

Me: " YES! But it's over there." (points to the bed next to him)

:)
