Happy Birthday! I thought you were an old coot. But you are just a young pup. I turned 62, three months ago.
hugs, Brandi

The tower is about 45 minutes north east of us. The fly fishing on the east side of Wyoming is non existent. I have to drive West 80 miles to the Bighorn mountains. I do fish in Montana a few times a year.

Loved visiting the bighorn mts.

I woke up with a stiff and very sore lower back. Been awhile since I have had this pain and as usual did nothing to deserve it. What a way to celebrate 'my' day. Is this also the new normal? :hissyfit:

Congrats Sir ! Always like how you conduct yourself as an educated gentleman here on TBN .
BTW just 60 , ahhhh your just a young buck wait till you get grey and white hairs on your chest and "dragoneggs" !

Thank you for the kind words, bully. BTW, I just took a peek down, and there are some white hairs on my chest! When did that happen?

And a report on my back... after walking around for a few days like I had a cucumber stuck up my rear, I am doing much better today but still tender.

Happy six Oh Mark, here's to many more !

You've maybe done so recently, but if not, get that checked out...... most back issues don't get better with time....

I tried a light-duty muscle relaxant once, and decided I didn't want to go that route. After gritting my teeth through a job a few years back that required continuous standing, my better-half convinced me to get looked at..... a good chiropractor and physio that I still do have helped quite a bit.

I figured out a long time ago what Deferred Maintenance does to machinery...... it took me several more decades to realize my back muscles fell into that category too.....

Hey - at least getting some abuse from the daughter/wife for that pic should take your mind off the back for a bit !

I know the problem... very little gap left between my L5 - S1 (Lumbosacral joint). I know the treatment, but the execution has been my bane. 1) Loose some belly, 2) Regular stretching, 3) Improve core muscles.

Sitting in front of a computer should not be on the list but unfortunately my day job has me doing that during this Covid time. Too many virtual 'zoom' meetings instead of moving and traveling all over to see customers.

OR a decent bump to his damaged hand would do it also.

Mark - Know thy enemy...... always good info.....

Biology is not my strong science.... thought I knew the basics though.... Wrong !

Part of my learning recently - PSOAS muscle.....

Psoas major muscle - Wikipedia

.... I'd never heard of it before, let alone understood it's (significant) function.

I'm not entirely sure that they are still in production, but if you can find a physio location with MedX equipment (IIRC, the original designs came from the same guy who designed Nautilus years ago), I found it very worthwhile to use.

Started out with the Super Stretch machine..... Hated/Loved it..... showed me how much work I need to do. Very well executed machines.

MedX Exercise Equipment, MedX Core Spinal Fitness, MedX Medical Equipment

The Torso Rotation machine is one of current favourites.

Yep, you nailed it.

Since Covid, I haven't been going to the gym and have been doing nothing about it at home. Totally on me. I've got to get back into an exercise routine that addresses this!

Few years ago I was having chronic lower back pain. My MD said before getting out of bed in the morning roll onto your stomach. Lift your head/shoulders and feet/knees off the bed and hold for as long as you can. He can hold for 2 minutes. I tried it. Totally sucked and immediately was painful. But I stuck with it for a couple months and the chronic pain went away. When I start being bothered with it I start that exercise again until it improves. I've paid attention to the things I do that help or contribute to that pain. Too much sitting is my worst.

When I went from 8 hour desk job days to 8 hours on my feet and walking a lot, most of my back pain and 20# went away.

You got the big 3 right there in your list. I'd put #3 first. Core muscles are the most important.

I found that after 60 theres two kinds of pain, the good pain is when you get hurt you know why theres pain, the bad pain is when something hurts and you dont why or how, and it happens more often............
