Yanmar YM2000 Fuel Pressure/ hard starting

We've got a John Deere 3020, made back in the late 60's, papa bought it new and the engine has never been into. We own it now and it has and always will be well maintained. Injector pump has been rebuilt a few times. Brother rebuilt it last year and I replaced all the returned boots and cooling hoses. She has around 9,000 running hours on her and still going strong. I guess next year we will service the trans/hydraulic system, I dread that. She holds a lot of fluid.

Broken top ring on each piston. 2nd ring broken on front piston along with broken ring lands.

Crank and rod bearings appear to be in great shape though, so that’s a plus.

Yessir. I was able to upload the second picture this time, so you can see the broken lands.

Not good, good thing you pulled those piston. If had just slapped it back together, you'd be pulling it back down, wasted time and money. Probably wouldn't hurt to inspect the main bearings.

Not much of one, more on the front cylinder than the rear, I think it is oil and carbon though more than ring ridge.

Ouch! You did the right thing, pulling the pistons.

I wonder if it was cranked with water in the cylinders to bust up stuff like that.

ouch ! Does that engine have cylinder liners ?

If it has liners, might want to replace, if not, that ridge at the top of the cylinder needs to be removed.
