Man i want one of these EA Wicked grapples on my new to me Kubota L3800..really I'd love the whole set up to be EA especially since i'm a NC native. I'm trying to justify to myself the addtl expensive of the other attachments i.e. box blade, scrap blade, PHD, & cutter) from EA vs LMC. Being a weekend warrior, I'm not sure i can justify the addtl expense though..daily or weekly yes, but occasional use, I'm not as sure..

for the grapple in a 60" wide one, Travis seems to think a single lid vs dual lid is better. any of you current owners have an opinion on it as well? huge difference in capability going for the 50" grapple?

thanks for the feedback

If you want my opinion, and I don't know if you do or don't, for an L3800 which has less lift capacity and weight a 1000 lbs less than my Kioti DK35se, I would not go bigger than the 50 inch single lid. That is what I have, and I can tell you I haven't been able to tear it up in the years I have owned it. My tractor has about 300 or 400 lbs more lift and quite a bit more breakout than yours. I had an L3400 which is the predecessor to your tractor and know them pretty well.

Unless you have a need for a wider grapple, and maybe you do, you will profit by having the lightest, toughest grapple you can buy that won't overload your loader's capacity. And for your tractor that grapple is the 50 inch single lid. This is just one mans opinion, but I have had mine now for some time so make of it what you will.

I forget whether I like single or dual more....Travis, please remind me. :D

Now that there is funny, I don't care who you are.:D

To uncblue:, You would have to know ole Island Tractor here to know he is just about the most rabid supporter of the single lid variety to a fault...

It seems that Travis is either on vacation or just not willing to take the bait. Maybe he forgot my preference too. In any case, I have reviewed my photo files and it appears that I have a 48" single lid grapple that seems to have done everything I've ever asked of it for the past ten years. I have photos of the same grapple mounted on my little 20hp CK20 which has 1070lbs of lift and also photos of it mounted on my DK40se with 2760lbs of lift.

Thank you all for the personal experiences & the pics. It makes it a much easier decision. I'm going to check price diff & weight diff between 50 & 54". I think either of those will work well & be big enough if I decide to move up to a larger tractor.

You might also take into consideration jaw opening size. As I recall the 50" only opens to 32" which is fine for many purposes. The 54" opens I believe to about 37" which gives a bit more flexibility in grappling big logs, stumps etc. Just as a point of reference, the grapple in my photos has an opening width of 42 or 43".

Another factor that I'd think about is grapple weight. Whatever the grapple weighs must be deducted from your spec'd lift capacity to get net lift capacity. Travis can get you the exact weights and as I recall the 54 weighs maybe sixty or so pounds more than the 50. Not a big deal if your loader is rated for above 1000lbs or more but a consideration if the loader has less lift.

Both the 50 and 54 are excellent grapples. Can't really go wrong with either. If you really see a bigger tractor in your future you might err on the side of the 54.

The 50" wide one only raises the lid to a 30" opening, the 54" raises the lid to 37"

274 lbs on the 50" to 349 lbs on the 54"

Things that you buy where you know at least once during their useful life you will push past the manufactures recommendation? Buy once cry once.

IIRC, you are on the record for a triple lid.

I do recall his proclamation demanding just that & all was great throughout the lands!!

The Kubota L3800 has an overall width of 55.1 inches. For my money, I would not go larger than 50 inches and a single lid. Lighter, less expensive and a better match for that particular tractor in my opinion. It will be your favorite, most valuable and productive accessory; doubling the utility of your rig.
