Today was a good day! I've been dreaming about a Kubota KX121-3 for many years and today after over 2 years of steady searching I got my excavator!

2011 KX121-3ST with cab heat/AC, 6 way blade, 24" QC bucket, factory thumb and 932hrs. It's a one owner/operator machine and super clean/tight. It came from cranberry country where the land is very sandy with barely any rock.

I dream of a Kx121 too. Sounds like you got a nice one, 932 hrs thats just a babe, congrats. I used a 121 for an hour last month, what a dream machine. It had 4500 hrs. But a kx71 or kx91 makes more sense for me.

They say 500 hrs on the track drive 90wt oil. Here's a pic of my oil at 130 hrs. It was black & dirty. I let it settle for 2 months and this is how it looks. 500 hrs; I don't think so? Looking at the oil I could not see any sparkles/ metal, but after settling a little metal shows. I wonder what the rest of that crud is. They must specify 500hrs to ensure it won't last too long. Not me, it's so easy to change I can't run that slop for 400 more hours.

I have an 18v greasegun. It was satisfying to grease the tooth flanks continuously while spinning around in a circle. :D I excavated all day today, great fun.

You will enjoy that machine. I have a friend with a KX121, he says he's gonna have his son dig a big grave and he's taking it with him. He's only 55 and expects to use it for many years.

Welcome to the world of excavators. Life will never be the same for you.

Very nice machine. The teeth look close to new on the bucket.

Sweet rig. I like the 6 way blade. Now you are going to make jealous with all the cool projects you can do with it.

Very nice, I came across one a few months ago that I could not pass up. Mine has several more hours than yours and still operates great. Congrats.

Very nice! They are sweet.

And yes, as Sodo said, don't neglect the final drive oil. They only take a couple quarts and it's cheap insurance compared to a couple grand if they fail.

You wont believe how darn handy it is to have one around, we use ours for lots of little 5-10 minute jobs (as well as the normal "real" jobs.)
Dumb things like when the wife bought 6 little bushes, had to take a single small scoop but had the holes in within 5 minutes and was done. Sure was nice when it 90 degrees out....

I've never run an excavator before, so I decided to practice with picking up rounds and stacking them. I then proceeded on picking them off one by one. There's a learning curve, but I'm starting to figure it out.

Way to pull the trigger, Happy! Nice looking machine... okay, yes I am jealous. Looks like you are already putting it to good use. Is this a learning experience for you or have you already experience with excavators? Just curious as to the learning curve. I assume that it isn't much difference than a BH?

Thanks DE! It's a learning experience, I've never run one before. My experience is with loaders and farm equipment.

Cutting in a drainage ditch, I guess the best way to learn is just get at it.

Sounds right.

I rarely feel jealous of nicer or better equipment than I have but a machine like that is a different matter. Have fun learning !!!

Congratulations, what a beautiful and useful machine. I am a little green with envy.

Nice, very nice.

Wish I could figure out how to justify one...... But to do that I'd hafta work more..... I'll just be jealous!!!! :)

Great looking machine! That 6-way blade must be really handy. The only downside is you will not enjoy running a backhoe as much ever again.
