Roger, I have that monitor, and my understanding from reading through the many Amazon reviews is that the blue wire is intended to connect to the vehicle's backup-light circuit to automatically switch video to the rear camera when shifting into reverse (not turn on the monitor). Your idea is a very good one for FEL work. :thumbsup: I don't know if many compact utility tractors come with a backup-light circuit, but if the tractor has a backup warning beeper, the blue could connect to that.

It could be hooked up to a back up alarm like you said. I was thinking a switch could be added to the HST pedal and connect the blue wire connected to it so the monitor would change channels. It would be cool for loader work. Now I wonder how well the wirless cameras work. That would make a nice FEL cam.

My monitor and camera arrived late last Friday afternoon and I bench tested with a 12 volt battery in my shop Saturday. I will install first camera on front of tractor to get a better view of grapple, bucket, pallet forks etc. I did not get a chance to figure out how to use the blue (backup) wire. The instructions with camera and monitor that I received were all but useless. Maybe they missed sending the real instructions? I had to pretty much guess how to hook everything up so don't have a clue on how blue wire works. Think I will be happy to just select Camera 1 or Camera 2 from monitor controls.

I plan to create a temporary (maybe permanent?) magnetic mount so, I can find optimal location for front camera to achieve best view while giving camera some protection. Ordered a windshield mount today with 1/4-20 screw for mounting monitor in cab. Should receive it Friday. My plan is to mount it in upper middle of windshield which should help with outside light reflection, etc.

I also ordered monitor and camera from Amazon but, did not see if there was a way to order a second camera from same vendor? The rear looking 2nd camera will start out installed inside cab for protection and to keep it clean. Back of tractor gets pretty dirty during dry times.

You right, the instructions say nothing. I should have taken pictures of how I hooked the wires up.

I like your idea for the magnetic mount for the camera. What kind of mount did you order for the windshield?

There is usually a drop down box for you to select the quantity on amazon.

With the camera in the inside if you back glass is clean the camera should be clean.

Does it turn the monitor on or switch channels?

Speaking from experience with similar products like this one and not having tested this product firsthand, if you tied the blue wire into a reverse light circuit on a car, truck, RV, it is supposed to flip on and off the reverse camera automatically. When the monitor has power and ground on the red and black wires, you should be able to trip the blue wire with a 12v positive power or lacking that a charged up 9V battery + side often can trip them as well.

Anyone put one on a open station tractor ? It would be nice to have a bucket or pallet fork cam. Thought about mounting a monitor up under my canopy. Dust would be about the only thing that would be a issue, tractor sets inside and not in the weather.

No open station here and I don't need the cam for the bucket but I can tell you it works very well for the forks.

George;

Where did you mount your camera on front of your tractor? Is camera pretty well protected?

I plan to build a temporary or perhaps permanent magnetic mount for my front camera.

Thanks!

I mounted the front cam to the round torque tube on the loader arms. It's protected in that area behind the forks back plate. Not sure if the magnetic field of a magnet would interfere with the cam's electronics.

The cameras are digital so, should not be affected by magnet. They have magnetic mounts for GoPro Cameras.

I want to be able to mount camera on tractor sometimes and on the FEL other times.

Bought a couple of these from Amazon.

I would like to find reasonably price cameras w/o the lines as they are a distraction, in my opinion.

I believe this one does not have lines, select the no guideline version.

Amazon.com : Esky EC170-06 World Smallest HD Color CCD Waterproof Vehicle Car Rear View Backup Camera, 170 Degree Viewing Angle Rearview Camera(0.86*0.65*0.50 inch) : Vehicle Video Products : Car Electronics

You may be able to able to find something on ebay but you won't be able to check the reviews like you can on Amazon.

Roger;

I saw that camera but, missed the no guideline version. Think I will get one and see how it works.

The big problem with all of these cameras is the power interface cable that plugs into the red camera power connector. The black / red wires are so small (24 gauge maybe?) that they will be fragile and are certainly hard to strip the insulation. I need to find a interface cable with maybe 16 gauge wires so I can adapt one of these plugs.

Well, got around to installing the camera today. Got a couple of problems. 1. Contrary to earlier posts, the square nut or threaded base are not 1/4". They appear to be the metric equivalent, what ever size that may be. This means I was not able to use the RAM mount balls. 2. For this reason I tried to use the included mount. I was surprised that it would actually fit my application. Now that it's stuck on, I find the base swivel is loose allowing the monitor to shake - a lot. 3. The camera is of such low resolution that I could barely make out the fire 20' behind me. Could barely tell my wife just flashed me, so the camera has to go. Is it a defective camera, or should I step up to a better one?

I think you should post the video of your wife flashing you and let us decide if you need a camera with better resolution or if it's just your eyes. Hee Hee

I am 99.9% sure that my nut was 1/4-20. You probably could get a nut at a hardware store that would work. Did you get the camera like I linked in post #1?

Yea, ordered the same one. Colors were all washed out with very poor contrast. The "nut" was a square piece of threaded 12 gauge sheet metal. A regular nut would not fit in the groove.

Did you adjust the settings on the monitor?

The flat threaded square piece matched up with the windshield suction mount and 1/4-20 perfectly.

Thanks Roger. Ordered the camera w/o guidelines last Friday and should receive it tomorrow.

I plan to use the camera, that came with the monitor, for rear view.
