That is a one minute stump in my world with a 110, a larger hoe would scoop that out in one sweep.

So true and it's only 20 seconds with a Kubota 5740. The bigger the faster but the BX sure can keep a guy from picking up a pick and shovel and that's a good thing. I could put a back hoe on my 60 hp Kubota 5740 but won't because the BX will dig up the stumps, it just takes a little longer and I'm ok with that.

Bet I had more fun.

And I thought one minute stump was your wifes nick name for you ;)

Doubt there is enough difference between a 5740 and a 110 to worry about. Both might take that stump out in one swipe. If not then it might take a minute to do it. When it becomes the 100th stump the OP is trying to remove he will not be having as much fun. Now having a 5740 and a BX would be a good set up for 14 acres.

I am glad you are happy with your tractor. After seeing the pics I honestly did not know they made tractors that small with backhoes and loaders. That thing looks kind of like a riding lawn mower on steroids. Looks like it would be really handy working in tight spaces and in and around your yard. On the downside I also think with 13 acres you will find things that it struggles to do.

What is the lift capacity and height on the loader? One thing I used all the time on my tractor before I got my skid steer was the loader. Aside from moving dirt I was always using it to load and unload things such as pallets, engines, implements, my gas powered welder, etc. I have a lot of things shipped to me that come on pallets and I have to unload them from trucks.

I know it is new now and you are enjoying the seat time. Down the road when many of these tasks are not "fun" any more and rather a chore things taking longer might annoy you. I know there are sometimes I want to spend all day on the tractor and then their are times when work and life are hectic and the tractor jobs I want to get done as quickly as possible.

Yep, that's a SCUT class tractor, Sub Compact Utility Tractor. Or a lawn tractor on steriods as you referred. They are a great class for someone that is doing minimal maintenance to a small property. In Cherokee's case it isn't the acres that will determine if it's a good fit, it's the work he intends to do with it. :)

/ Big tractor syndrome #106
I get that. With anyone it is about what they want to do. One could have 1000 acres and all they want to do is mow their yard and plant a garden and then you could have someone with 5 acres that wants to dig a pond. The 5 acre guy would want a bigger tractor than the 1000 acre guy. Generally speaking though the more acres you have the more the average person wants to do which means a bigger tractor if you want to get these things done in a reasonable amount of time.

Hey, don't worry about these guys saying it'll be too small. The bx will always be great at what it's designed for. It'll be a great tool for you. If you later decide to get a bigger tractor, I doubt you'll want to get rid of the bx. Have fun with it!

There was no my tractor is bigger than yours that I saw in this thread at least up until you purchased. There was no strong arm attempts to manipulate you into a larger tractor.

There was however attempts to help you with careful advice from people with more experience than you.

I was one of the people who cautioned about the BX and thought you may want to consider a little larger. I have used a garden tractors, BX, B6200, B2620, Ford 2N, Ford 5000, a few different rental backhoes and excavators, and a few more that I can't remember right now. My bet is there were other responders who used a lot more different types and sizes than I have.

I really hope it works out well for you.

But I bailed out of this thread at one point based on my impressions of the futility of offering advice to someone who distrusted everything you heard.

Now you are on a mission to prove how you were right in the first place and all those egos with big tractor syndrome are foolish.

Not a good way to introduce yourself to a forum full of people who could help you in the future.

But good luck.

So true. I can remember a time when I was operating a 994 Cat front end loader and complained to management it was under powered for what they wanted it to do  I can also remember the time when I was operating a Cat 245 excavator and heard a "crack". When I pulled the bucket out of the hole there was no bottom in the bucket  I guess there are times although rare that we can have to much power.

It's all relative I guess in what the machine is trying to do. :confused3:

I agree. I have not seen a thread in a while where someone asks for advice and then argues so much against it. It is his tractor he should get what he wants not what we think he wants but there are a ton of experienced people on here who can offer sage advice.

It really is a moot point now as he bought it and it happy which is all that matters.

I hope it works out well for him. It is a cool little tractor.

I am having fun with it, and it is doing just what I want it to do....so far I have not needed a larger machine, but we are only one job in. I am going to try to keep a running journal on its adventures...it is in the Kubota section if anyone wants to look..... So I am still on my original position...I think many push the larger machines onto people that really don't need them.

I wish someone had pushed me to a machine about twice as big as I have....and I'm starting out a couple times bigger than a BX.

Most of us have tried to be as helpful as possible and provide the best advice possible based on years of experience; most of us are not easily annoyed, but you have managed to do so. I've "contributed" all I intend to.

I guess I should be more careful....I am use to dealing with people with thicker skin, I am sorry you thought my comments inferred someone tried to strong arm or whatever.

I did come here because of the experience, however I do know people are people. Some are very brand loyal....some think that they know everything and if you discount their advice they take it as a personal insult. They try to backup their advice by tossing all their qualifications at you and making you feel very small about yourself. That is all ok.

Right now I am not qualified to make a call one way or the other....It could be that I made a $20k mistake, and from your tone that is really what you are hoping for. All you have to do is check out the Kubota sub forum here and you will get a blow by blow of what I use the little machine for.

You are not foolish if you have a machine that does what you need to do.....however I think that many times people suggest a machine that is going to use 5% of its "ability, power whatever" and they over buy.

That is all I am trying to do not over buy, and show people a real report on what this little machine can do.

And all we tried to do was show you a real report on what that little machine cannot do. :)

Enjoy your new tractor.

You still dont get it and probably never will. It is not about the machine. The BX25 TLB is a very capable machine. You dont believe people when they say they hope it works well for you.

It is about people. I cant believe this is the first time you have run across this but maybe so. You have seen a number of people tell you that your approach in this thread annoyed them. Take a hint... or not.

I'm comfortable with myself and could care less. You might just reread this thread and discover something -- not about machines but about yourself and people. But I have my doubts.

However many do not own one so are not qualified to make those reports.

So far I am....and trust me if it does fall short I will also post those in the Journal.

You are not the first person to say I am thick headed.....but I am someone that wants cold hard facts, those that do not like what the facts have to say usually say there are none, The facts are just not out there and that I am going to do my best to document my ownership experence. It will be great fun....and also be a test of just what I get out of the machine. I am one of those people that keeps track of every time gas gets put in the car, I want to know that what I buy I am getting the most value out of. I don't buy on feeling, I buy on fact. As there was not enough facts out there and a great deal of chest pumping I just made a choice and I will document publically everything this little machine will do. It might not be applicable to anyone, but I do know if it was out there when I bought I would have read it cover to cover.

It is only about the machines and their abilities...and those abilities are unknown and undocumented....all I have are people that seem to take it personal that I did not take their advice.

(I am in the process of installing InfoPath....man it takes forever)

Okay, I'm gonna go with GPintheMitten, you just don't get it.

We see this sometimes here at TBN. Usually the person comes out of it over time. We'll see in your case.

Enjoy your new tractor. :)

I should have added that in perfect world, I'd also have something like a BX to go along with my current tractors, and the one that's twice as big (honestly, I think a full size backhoe would be good). :drink:
