How to remove fallen tree from pond

It's no coincidence that gasoline floats on water. I'd push over a few other trees, a couple gallons of gasoline, and have a weenie roast!

I think you are winning.

lf a termite can eat a house, you can get that tree out of your pond. Your pictures are proof that all it takes is persistence. Good job!

Thanks but are you calling me a termite!? :D It's a David vs. Goliath project that's for sure! Well actually in my case, it's David's grandpa vs. Goliath.

Finally got the tree removed from the pond today. Lesson learned, could have cut the tree down in an hour and out of the pond but instead took 2 weeks to solve the problem.

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions/tips.

Hi Rekees4300! I'm intrigued by your username. As you can see from my avatar, I'm partial to keeshonds. Is that where the 'kees' in your name comes from? BTW, I'm glad you "bested" that tree and I also vote that you seem to have a very nice corner of the world to call home!

Username not related to dogs. Been using "rekees" online for 20 years (seeker spelled backwards) and 4300 is my tractor's model number. Glad the battle with that rogue tree is finally over. Thanks for the kind words. :)

Nice. If you have another one sometime and have any beavers if you leave it for a few weeks they do a very nice job of cleanup. They'll take everything but the big trunk.

Could be wrong, but I'd be really surprised if that come-a-long moved it much past the cattails let alone up the bank.

3' base is a big tree. A big heavy tree.

I'm thinking too heavy also.

My 4 ton come-a-long pulled this, but no mud was involved.

I will say that I think this bent some parts on my come-a-long.

Was rather surprised at the performance of my made-in-China 4-ton come-a-long. Did the job and no bent or broken parts!

My HF 4-ton came apart with about 1/2 ton load. Finished the pull with an old Maasdam 2-ton with no problem.

If it was 3' it definitely would have been too much for the come-a-long but in reality it was a mere 23".

I thought from the pics that 3' was a stretch, but I figured since it was in the water the fish size rule applied.

Nice work. For future reference, throw a blanket or jacket over the come-a-long or winch cable to absorb the tension if the cable should happen to break.
Here's what I found at a pawn shop, not then knowing I'd later it need it to keep my tractor from flipping into my pond when I got to close to the edge and couldn't recover as one side was sinking in; with the back hoe on too!

Something like this is well worth the $ IMHO, especially for something like your tree, or my near dunking of my tractor.
