3-Point Hitch How do I keep the trailer hitch from rotating?

/ How do I keep the trailer hitch from rotating? #21
Oh, well, I'll put a picture of the one I made, since it was just scrap material I had laying around the shop. I wanted to move the ball back from the drawbar a little so I could turn shorter. I used it quite a bit, but never did get around to cleaning it up and painting it like I intended to do.

My scrap iron is prettier than yours. Don't think the guy I built it for ever painted it either.

Try this:

"Functional Accessories For Work & Play"

It works well for a trailer. Goes up and down with a toplink so it make hooking up the hitch easy. $45 + shipping. If you have a welder and steel - make your own!

Just stick a 2" receiver on your ballast box, (or most often used impliment), that way the chances of the 3pth raising are minimized and you can stick whatever you wish into the receiver as needed. (tow hook, winch, tool carrier, etc) I just leave a 1 7/8 ball on mine, its fine for moving most trailers around, even those with 2 5/16 balls, as long as they are tongue heavy

This is what I use to pull my trailers and some implements around. It has two receivers the top I use to attach a trailer carry all and the bottom I put my ball in and it works flawlessly. I wired a 7 pin round connector to it so I can hook up any trailer and use all of the features (brakes, lights, signals, ect.)

Has anyone made a bracket to keep the trailer hitch (that piece with all the holes that fits across the quick hitch) from rotating? I want to use it to pull boat trailers and thought some of you may have already made a quick solution to this problem.
Thanks

You can buy drawbar stay straps at Tractor Supply. You need an upper and lower for each side.

Drawbar Stay Strap, Category 1, Upper - 0267953 | Tractor Supply Company

Drawbar Stay Strap, Category 1, Lower - 0267961 | Tractor Supply Company

I connected mine with the drawbar pins thru the lower hole and top link pin to upper holes. It forms a triangle and captures the drawbar so it doesn't turn.

TSC has a diagram which shows it a little different than how I connected mine, but you get the idea.

Just so you know, none of your links work.

Is this what you have?

I've seen them with and without both the big hole and the top notch. Probably some specific tractor may need clearance for a bolt, etc, in that hole's position.

I bought one of those from TSC today along with a draw bar but it only came with one bolt. Seems to me it should have two so I got another bolt before leaving the store. I wish they'd had a decent draw bar chain hook but they didn't so I settled for a clevis or what I and others call a shackle.

I have the Qhitch on nearly all the time. Here's something simple I made to stop the crossbar from revolving.

The little plate (one on each side) is welded to a cat1/cat2 sleeve, then that assembly is slipped on to each pin and bolted to the crossbar on the inner side and also through the hole out near the tip of the pin - out where the clevis pin could go.

This is sufficient for my 18 and 24 hp tractors pulling a 2600 lb watering trailer on rough ground.

Also in that photo - I use removable pins so I can adjust the height of the Qhitch's top hook, or even to mount it upside down to hitch an implement that has interference below its top pin.

If you put a ball on the 3pt drawbar go buy a new coupler now, because you well bend it and the tonge of the trailer. If you are just going stright or small turns then forget what I said. Take it from someone that has been moving boats around for 45 years. That 3pt drawbar well get you sooner or later and if it's a weld on coupler you well have a lot of work ahead of you.

Hey guys, thanks for answering about the "hole" in the draw bar lock. Makes sense now....just couldn't see how it would serve a purpose on my particular lifting arm.

Here's what I did, and it's worked pretty well but limits how tight a turn you can make. Hitch-2.JPG

I built one, and I use it,, occasionally.
I did use it as a stand, when I painted my Gravely, it was the perfect height!!
