Yes Mossroad I have seen the movie " Soilent Green and found it disgusting , however , now it seems it may have been prophetic...Is that what you believe in ? Exterminating older folks who have paid into a system which promised them Social Security and Then Medicare and now wants to breach the contract because they have raided the trust fund and allowed previously unqualified folks to join social security and medicare and along with government theft, bankrupt it ...Are you for that ? If you are not old now and you are lucky enough one day you will be so be careful what you wish for....it may just end up applying to you.

Where did I ever say I believe in exterminating old people? (or any people for that matter?) I think you must have misread something somewhere or confused me with someone else.

No one ever starved in this country before all the government handouts. Private charities, churches and individuals stepped in and would again if given the chance. There could also so be work for food programs...there are many nation building solutions best left to individuals and the private market.

You got statistics to back that up?

The U.S. population has doubled since 1950. Church congregations have dropped. It isn't going to happen if we leave it to the churches.

How could anyone claim abortion is immoral and be in favor of the death penalty?

How could anyone not be in favor of the dealth penalty and sanction abortion?

These are two very different views of morality Brin.

That's simple.... babies are innocent, cute and cuddly. Mass murderers usually aren't.

Your post # 105 Mossroad..." Ever seen the movie Soilent Green?"

As you know the movie was about the Government giving the citizens a lethal green drink when they reached a certain age and showing them a movie of their life as they died..It was to save the government money on health care since the old person had lived the life years the govt. deemed satisfactory. Is that not what you meant.?:)

It IS funny that you mention this
This ACTUALLY was the way our country was envisioned, citizens, taking time out out their lives, serving, and then returning to their "real" lives.
Not to get "political", but I wonder how long the longest sitting senator has been there?

that old dude from WV has been there since before dirt.

"We cannot expect the Americans to jump from Capitalism to Communism,
but we can assist their elected leaders in giving Americans
small doses of Socialism
until they suddenly awake to find they have Communism."

- Soviet -Russia Leader ~ Nikita Khrushchev, 1959

Fine. Cancel social security and medicare and public schools, too, then. Those are all socialist programs. So are the parks departments, senior centers, public transportation and just about any other program that is operated with tax dollars.

BTW I am personally against the death penalty, not because I haven't seen some absolutely horrendous crimes, but I think I have a consistent position when I don't want the government to have the power of life and death. Again, my personal preference for career criminals etc. would be banishment(which has been held to be legal)
Anyway some more ramblings, Now I NEED some coffee!!!

Actually, a jury of your peers has the power of life and death over you, not the government. If you are executed, it will be because 12 good men and women voted to recommend the death penalty and a judge upheld their verdict.

The government is carrying out the wishes of the private citizen jury - no?

Of course, you may be subject to rendition - in which case all bets are off.

To banish criminals we would need to declare one of 50 states a penal colony. Nominations? It wouldn't be fair to choose Hawaii since they took their turn already as a leper colony.
Dave.
