Oh I dunno Dave --- " An eye for an eye " strikes me as a universal truth :)

LOL Good one Bob. I am sort of in that camp too.

I do cringe when I read that someone spent 10-20 years in prison and then later DNA testing proves they are innocent. Some have come off death row too. For that reason, I don't have total trust in the process of applying the death penalty. If innocent are killed, we have to live with that.
Dave.

I agree with you Dave...I would rather see guilty go free than execute one innocent man..I have no clue where the answer is ..Maybe a devils island somewhere.

Whoever is paying the bills has a right to know exactly what they're paying for. This is what we give up.

Interesting concept, but what happens when the taxpayer's are paying the bill i.e. government health care? At what level are my medical issues private?

Congress. There are 541 total members. ...So I will offer this up....If we could just talk 541 TBN members into putting aside their affairs and going to congress for just 2 years and serving and kicking all of those currently there..OUT ! Would we not be better off ? Think about it...I tell you I am sure we would - so there is my vote in advance.

Okay, now that I,ve had my fourth cup of Java, I,m sufficiently caffeinated:)
I think that most people who are in favor of the health bill are motivated by desire to help people out, those who may be in
financial straits, or have some serious disease that if they lose their insurance won't be covered.
In other words good hearted, kind people with the best of intentions.
The problem is the law of unintended consequences.
The same way ,with all the public housing that was built in this country, was built with the best of intentions, get people out of dilapidated housing stock, give them a clean environment in which to live and raise their children.
Best of intentions,Right? How has THAT turned out?

The English did exactly that: Australia

Not to mention the few who 'opted' to come to the US as indentured servants rather than rot in jail in England. The 1960's equivalent of 'Would you like to join the Army and make your country proud, or go to jail?' :) I bet it helped more than it hurt, but times were different.

We have run out of islands, and besides, there were people living there, lest we forget.

It IS funny that you mention this
This ACTUALLY was the way our country was envisioned, citizens, taking time out out their lives, serving, and then returning to their "real" lives.
Not to get "political", but I wonder how long the longest sitting senator has been there?

As I recall, that kinda got modified by the update to "turn the other cheek" or something.
