You Know You Are Old When

Was your father, for lack of a better term, famous (or at least well-known in the community)? Usually papers will print a short obituary for free, but anything more than that costs.

Years ago he held the United States Heavyweight Boxing Title… plus as a young lad during the Depression Era he was also ACE Dealer for the local newspaper and in later years known in the business community and youth sports…

The story kind of took on a life of its own… local kid makes good and stayed active his entire life in the community and newspapers also had previous stories in their archives.

I was hired into my former job to replace the Director of Design at a tech company, who retired, and then came back to work for me part-time as an engineer. We used to go out for lunch together the 3 days of each week that he was in the office, at a local hole in the wall pub, and lunch was always acompanied by one pint of Lager. I was about 40, and he was well into his 70's.

One day, walking from the pub to our car, I made some comment that a beer every day with lunch "might not be doctor-recommended".

He said, "I dunno if I'd listen to them... I've known a lot more old drunks than old doctors."

I knew I was old when the ladies at the drive through windows started calling me baby.

One calls me sweety, or sweaty, I'm not sure. You're old when you can't hear the difference.

My male Dr. Banana Fingers retired a year ago, replaced by a young female. I thought finally, after 30 years, small hands for my prostate exam. "Oh...we don't recommend that after you're 72" she said.

That must be why my young female doctor does not do the exam, well that and plus I no longer have a prostate.

I think when you get old you defy physics.
I lost my hair, teeth, gall bladder and other "unnecessary" organs yet I weigh more now than when I was complete!

My previous doctor used to do that exam, she'd always remind me that this wasn't any more pleasant for her than it was for
me.
She's retired now, and her replacement stated that she doesn't do that.

Mine reluctantly gave me a PSA test. She said the number doesn't mean much after 72. I insisted on every blood test they could give.
PSA was 1.6. A1C was a little high (4.7)...then she said not really high. Then I told her about three sugar sodas a day and lots of candy.

Ok...be honest...how many can down a pound of chocolate while watching a movie?
I can...although wife says "you pig!!!".
Then how many can't wait until April 22 when Easter candy is half-price?
