Chipper Woodmax three point chipper

The buyer should be picking up my Kubota B7100HST soon so I'll have room for a Woodmaxx 8H chipper.

Recommendations for hydraulic fluid? Woodmaxx says you can use iso 68 for operating (oil) temps 35-185 and iso 46 for temps 30-160 degrees F.
I can't mow during the height of fire season but I can chip, so I'll be doing that when its hot. I'm unlikely to run the chipper in temps below 35 degrees. Around freezing is as cold as it gets here. Would ISO 68 be appropriate?

Yours is more advanced and uses hydrostatic fluid. The 8H has hydraulic feed motors and needs 7 gallons of hydraulic fluid.

I put the ISO 46 in my WMH8. Took 7 gallons. Bought the oil at TSC.....

I remember that was one of the primary differences between the machines and the difference in feed mechanisms. Otherwise,
same capability as my model. Interesting to see hydraulic and hydrostatic versions.

I use an extender for my chipper too. I remove it when I remove the chipper
Extenders are very handy when one needs them, but I also think they can be tough on the PTO stub shaft bearings. And, none of us want to collapse a PTO drive shaft to where it damages the PTO itself!

Roy - I'm not sure I follow your statement. Are you saying that using an extender WILL damage the PTO stub shaft bearings? Or are you saying that the bearings would be damaged if the PTO shaft is "pushed" into the tractor as it is being compressed because it's too long due to the extension?

Mark, when I went to put the mower back on my Massey after taking off the chipper, I tried to leave the extension adapter on, wanting to see if the mower's pto shaft had enough play
left to absorb the extra length. It didn't....made the shaft tight from front to rear, and I thought it might push the tractor stub shaft back into the tractor, which is what I think Roy is talking about.

OK, that's what I thought after re-reading it today. When I first read it, I took it as there was something inherently hard on the tractor by using the extension.

My current chipper (Bearcat) is my only PTO powered implement so I always just leave the extension on. My QuickHitch is always on as I've put the QH bushings on the chipper as well as my ballast box and rear blade.

When my MX-9900 arrives, I'll see if the American Made PTO shaft is long enough to use it without the extension. If so, I'll take the extension off. If not, I'll make it fit with the extension.

I ordered my WM-8H last Tuesday. Called Woodmaxx Friday to see how the order's going. They said they'll be shipping mine Friday. It'll take a week to reach me here in California. I'm eager to get it- the brush piles are mounting.

I'm not saying use of an extender will damage the bearings, but I think extended use of the extender may result in bearings wearing prematurely.
As far as your second question, if the PTO driveshaft is short enough to use an extender, you probably aren't going to damage the tractor's PTO stub shaft. However, as Drew did...best to check by slowly(!!!) compressing the drive shaft.
