only a partially successful day. The part I thought I'd have a problem with, the pto shaft, slid on perfectly and was the
right size. What did not fit was the top link. Both my top links, manual and hydraulic, are only 32 inches long. This distance measured out to be
almost 36 inches long, and I have to go to town on Monday to find a longer top link. Odd the distance is so long.
Close but no cigar.

Bummer. Sorry to hear that.
Our Woodmaxx has an adjustable top-link bracket, which is really handy. Too bad they didn't do that on all the models. Really helps get everything to fit a bunch of different tractors.

I wonder if I'm missing that...I only have three vertical holes and they all seem about four inches too far away. I'll figure it out...
but I will call Woodmax Monday morning and ask if maybe there should be a bracket there that isn't.
very impressed how this chipper is built, heavy duty for sure.

I ran over to the barn and snapped two photos to give you a better idea what I am talking about. The top link bracket on mine has a wooden box mounted on it that I built to hold the chainsaw and such but you can see how the link is set up - sort of like a trailer hitch. I also snapped a photo of the bottom attachment points as they are also adjustable.
Slightly different design on different models.

It's odd you'd have that combination -- make sure there is still enough overlap left in the PTO shaft (it does look like it's at/near max extension to me). I can't believe they'd size/arrange things so that the PTO shaft would be long enough but standard top links would not. So make sure the PTO shaft has got plenty of overlap left.

I looked at some of your other pics and it seems like the top link holes on the chipper are farther back than the lower lifting pins, which is also odd -- normally on most implements they would be even, or the top link holes are farther forward. Hard to say, as there are so many little factors that would affect the geometry of the links. But to me, it looks like WoodMaxx should have made the top link holes poke forward a heck of a lot more.

thanks Code54, they seemed to have done a different design for the one they build themselves.
But to me, it looks like WoodMaxx should have made the top link holes poke forward a heck of a lot more.
now that was exactly what I thought when at the longest possible setting of the manual top link it was still a full inch short.

I will be careful with the pto shaft as to length. My memory was there was more spline length to go, but sure don't want to run things out at the end.
The lower lift points on my model are not easily adjustable, only by bolting/unbolting, and they are set at the closest in position, only sticking out enough to get the hitch on. So it currently should be as close to the tractor as possible, and I made sure the Kubota adjustable links were all the way in, even backed up the tractor a little.
Annoying that my 32 inch top hydraulic link for my TNT can't be used. It wouldn't be hard to fab a new forward positioned top link but I shouldn't have to be doing this. I don't have any left over parts either.

If you look at the photos on their site, it looks like they designed it like that for some reason. They have the top link hole pretty close to even front and back with the bottom holes on the MX9900 so wonder why they didn't do the same for the MX8800?

thanks, even zooming in hard to see what the exact attachment point is. It really should be designed for a 32 inch link.

success, but not without more aggravation and trips downtown.
Turns out the Kubota oem adjustable forks are a few inches longer than the manual
ones on my Massey. So after going downtown and returning with a nice longer top link, turns out I can't use a type 2 shimmed down because
of clearance issues on both tractors. That was strike three, but I figured before I made another trip, I'd install it on the Massey and
see if it fit ok there. It did. Pto shaft had at least a few inches of overlap, no wobble, and it came alive at low rpm on the tractor.
Then I raised the rpm up to an indicated 1170rpm on the chipper's tachometer, just below the desired 1200 rpm, and grabbed some unburned wood out of my burn pile and
just had a good time. It sucked in the material at any speed I wanted, usually slow, and while being quite loud, it never bogged or complained with trunks up to 4 inches. A lot of the noise was from the hopper vibrating. I didn't have the camera with me. Pics next time.

Next time I will use hearing protection and gloves. I was only chipping mostly little stuff today just testing it, gradually feeding it larger pieces so I could see the reaction. It is unlikely I will put anything larger than four inches diameter in this, but today showed me that it would grind it right up and spit chips for fifteen feet. My Massey has been used to mow since put in service by prior owner
and myself so it finally got a decent workout today.
Or maybe it didn't, sure never slowed down.

I was initially annoyed this unit did not fit easily on my Kubota, a very common tractor, when I realized
that my biggest project ahead meant taking the chipper into the woods to clear a path to my pond way in the back.
So better I don't have it on a cab tractor anyway going into the woods.

And I did remember to recheck the oil level and added another half quart, bolted it all back together. (They could sure make checking the oil a whole lot more convenient than unbolting and rebolting four bolts of two different sizes. It needs an access door like a tractor's hood flap for fuel.

I will get some action pics shortly
