success, but not without more aggravation and trips downtown.
Turns out the Kubota oem adjustable forks are a few inches longer than the manual
ones on my Massey. So after going downtown and returning with a nice longer top link, turns out I can't use a type 2 shimmed down because
of clearance issues on both tractors. That was strike three, but I figured before I made another trip, I'd install it on the Massey and
see if it fit ok there. It did. Pto shaft had at least a few inches of overlap, no wobble, and it came alive at low rpm on the tractor.
Then I raised the rpm up to an indicated 1170rpm on the
chipper's tachometer, just below the desired 1200 rpm, and grabbed some unburned wood out of my burn pile and
just had a good time. It sucked in the material at any speed I wanted, usually slow, and while being quite loud, it never bogged or complained with trunks up to 4 inches. A lot of the noise was from the hopper vibrating. I didn't have the camera with me. Pics next time.
Next time I will use hearing protection and gloves. I was only chipping mostly little stuff today just testing it, gradually feeding it larger pieces so I could see the reaction. It is unlikely I will put anything larger than four inches diameter in this, but today showed me that it would grind it right up and spit chips for fifteen feet. My Massey has been used to mow since put in service by prior owner
and myself so it finally got a decent workout today.
Or maybe it didn't, sure never slowed down.
I was initially annoyed this unit did not fit easily on my Kubota, a very common tractor, when I realized
that my biggest project ahead meant taking the
chipper into the woods to clear a path to my pond way in the back.
So better I don't have it on a cab tractor anyway going into the woods.
And I did remember to recheck the oil level and added another half quart, bolted it all back together. (They could sure make checking the oil a whole lot more convenient than unbolting and rebolting four bolts of two different sizes. It needs an access door like a tractor's hood flap for fuel.
I will get some action pics shortly
