Wood exterior replacement

Have T-11 board around the whole house (painted an "off" sort of yeallow).

Thinking about siding (won't want to have to paint every other year or so).

First year in this house, and will stay here for at least 20 years.

Looking to get somthing less "labor intensivie" other than the existing wood.

Any materials out there that I could look at.

Have to think that there might be a synthetic type board that looks like wood that I might be able to use.

Brick has crossed my mind, not sure of the cost.

Siding might do the job, but would like to keep the house "looking the way it is".

Any input would be of great help!

I used HardiPlank on my house. Not a lot of fun to install, but great stuff. www.jameshardie.com.

I would also recommend the hardiplank. A concrete type product that won't burn, insects won't eat it, and it won't rot. Looks like wood lap siding.

I had the T1-11 siding when I built my house in '68, and always planned on covering it with brick veneer. Some minor problems with the squareness of the foundation left me with a questionable brick ledge to set brick on, so I eventually removed the T1-11, and added studs, more insulation, put the T1-11 back on after setting out the windows, and re-sided with wood shingles. Really like the look.

I see that 'Hardi-shingles' are available, as well as other types of the cement siding.

I also found that the woodpeckers liked the T1-11 and they don't bother as much now (course there has been an on-going battle with them, so there are fewer now than then /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ).
