45,000 x $500week = $22.5M per week strike fund deletion

At that rate fund would be empty June 1, 2024 - but don't see those out on strike going that long without medical insurance and other benefits.
That is entirely up to Fain and after I watched the YT video posted earlier on, I'd say he don't give a rats butt as he's still getting a fat cat's salary and interestingly is getting paid by Stellantis as a treasurer for their training center which in the real world would be a direct conflict of interest but then the UAW don't operate in a real world anyway.

Far as striking workers go, not all the 4000+ are strikers, a portion of them were laid off by Fords, GM and Stellantis because of parts shortages from the struck plants so those laid off workers are eligible for unemployment. However, I have no idea of that amount. Then we have the T2 and 3 suppliers that are also laying off employees as well.

Should change the name of this thread to 'When will the UAW strikers return to work'?

I surmise that when the rank and file gets a bellyfull of living in poverty and boots Fain, the strike might be settled.

Not that it really matters much because the price of a new vehicle is really beyond the financial means of the general public today.

Several colleagues had planned to retire end of this year... most of their 403B through work is in bonds and all 3 have decided to keep working.

The usual factors as nest egg took a hit, high cost is supplemental insurance and overall higher costs...

Saw the same twice before... delayed retirements.

The hospital were I work has never had a strike... if nurses and staff can jump ship for a better deal they often do...

Some that left for more money came back... the longer commute a huge factor for many returning...

Getting a raise but adding 1 hour each way drive time can and does get old...
A raise don't mean squat when driving an extra hour in a gas guzzling wannabuggy. Eats up that raise and more real quick like.

I keep trying to get people to put their predictions up. Mine stays at November 21st.

The UAW understands the old 3 require large ICE sales profits to finance the transition to EVs. UAW knows EV factories reduces their membership head count. Now Ford and and GM have started to slow their EV transitioning efforts. With Tesla coming out with their Gen 2 $25K car by 2026 and China selling even cheaper EVs I is going to be hard on the old 3. Washington is committed to the EV move going forward but where they bring along the old remains to be seen. I expect the strike will guarantee them being bailed out in the end.
I expect the strike will guarantee them being bailed out in the end.

Who's gonna pay for that? I'm not ok with my tax dollars being used, you?

Not going to predict anything other than I know Fords at least have made their final offer to Fain.

IMO only, either Fain is very smart or extremely stupid and I really don't know which. One thing I do know is, Fords upper management is very smart and calculated, I am related to one.

Last time I checked you have no say in how your tax dollars are spent and as far as the push for electric vehicles in DC, that is subject to change with the installation of a new POTUS.

Yeah, not just in commuting expenses, wear & tear on vehicle but just loss of personal time too. Bad enough around here where there's relatively little traffic, can only imagine what it's like in an urban area.
the push for electric vehicles in DC, that is subject to change with the installation of a new POTUS.
Let's not forget congress, they play a big, maybe even bigger role in this.

Flat Rock has always been sort of a fringe Fords plant. Probably better when Mazda was running the place. I have some good friends that work there or should I say show up for work at least.

Yes appears their particular makes is the new mustang, not one of their highest runners right now.

I think GM and stellantis will fold around that time. Ford will hold out. To be honest, I expect it to go till mid Dec.

My brother is pissed about Fain. He said they never took a vote for him and powers that be (whoever that is) put him in place. He's already sick of this crap and he's not alone. Luckily he's smart with his money and lives somewhat in his means but he wants to retire.

I told him to suck it up. You may not like your wages so you can watch movies while getting paid. Welcome to the real world.

UAW has always been a part of my family...except for me. I'd rather be broke than be beholden to my master....govt is bad enough.

Oh and I'm not broke

The UAW membership did vote to put him in. His quote after being elected is why they are in the situation today. Elections have consequences.

Fain declares victory in UAW presidential election; Curry sets swearing-in for Sunday

"This election was not just a race between two candidates, it was a referendum on the direction of the UAW. For too long, the UAW has been controlled by leadership with a top-down, company union philosophy who have been unwilling to confront management, and as a result we’ve seen nothing but concessions, corruption and plant closures. While the election was close, it is clear that our membership has long wanted to see a more aggressive approach with our employers. We now have a historic opportunity to get back to setting the standard across all sectors, and to transform the UAW into a member-led, fighting union once again, and we are going to take it. The future of the working class is at stake.”

Don't know, and actually don't care. My bro may be covering his ass for a bad vote, or Fain was voted in by proxy by the stewards, reps or what ever the name is.

He is a Joe believer but secretly will tell you he voted for the Don.

That always opens up a can of worms around my house. Be a man and don't lie about who you voted for. Ask your wife for your balls back. Fake loyalty pisses me off. I may not agree with him but everyone has the right to their own beliefs.

His bed is made, along with the other UAW members. Sleep in it

I don't think it's hit you yet, but EV demand fell off a giant cliff. Even Tesla missed on both top and bottom line earnings, even with price cuts to increase volume.

The euphoria has left the market and reality is setting in about the true structural issues facings EV's. The Big three are all slashing EV budgets because the hype never materialized.

EV's are in dire straights right now, with the economy struggling amid high interest rates...circumstances and unintended consequences are one hell of a head wind. Self driving is great and all...but ambulance chaser attorneys are lining up for the class action lawsuits. It took individual liability from each driver and put it on Tesla.
I don't know where you are coming from but Tesla is selling all the EVs they can build and are extending their factory count currently.

It is true the Big 3 are not contenders in the EV market place yet. They are waiting to get their Tesla standard charging ports installed so they have access to Tesla Supercharger network. I just did a fast 1600 mile cross country EV road trip that would not have been possible without access to Tesla Superchargers.

On my 800 mile return trip from Austin Texas I got in my Model Y and pressed the mic button and said, "Navigate to Home and put it in Drive then engaged FSD. The Tesla found its way to I-35 and had me back to Murray KY in 15.5 hours. There no searching for EV chargers, route planning or routine driving tasks for me to do making the trip safer and less stressful for this old man. This was my first solo Cross country driving trip in 15 years.

It is true ICE vehicles sales has been declining for years as EVs are ramping faster and faster.

That may remain a mystery on this side of death. :)

I’m not sure but it seems like we have heard about said trip about as many times as there were miles in it……

No, but my sister who has old timers does much the same thing, repeating her stories over and over and over……

Good thing they have those dependable diesel engines powering those charging stations.
