Where do you buy tires? What brands to avoid.

Yep they changed the bar angle, when it gets mounted on a rim it will not look as much narrower as it does just sitting next to the older tire.

Not crazy about my last carlisle purchase. They changed their tires but call them the same thing. And many sellers are using the old product image so you don't get what you see. Here are my old vs new tires.
Both Carlisle farm specialist r1s. Both 8-16s. Both fully inflated. What gives?

Are you sure they are Carlisle and not Carlstar?
Carlisle Branded Tires Are Now Carlstar
And does it widen out when mounted and weight put on it?

I see the difference in the bar angle but the width sure does look different to me.

That pic is mounted and aired up. It says CARLISLE on the tire, although I bought them right before they changed to carlstar. Says Made in India. so i looked it up on the Carlisle website. Same model, Same listed Size, Different Sku #. The tire is more narrow, But is listed with a slightly higher load rating (160 lb more). And higher max inflation. (42 vs 28). I think i only put around 30 in them so ill put more in being a narrow tire.

I dont think you can even get the old style anymore. What ticks me off is there is no depiction of the new tire on the site. They still picture the old style! Not what you get.

They may well be closer to each other in size after some use. Tires do stretch and change shape slightly under pressure and torque. When I replace ine tire the size specs drive my purchase more than brand.

The older tires did dry rott well before the tread had significant wear. Hopefully these last longer. I do like that they have a higher load rating. They are listed as 8 ply vs 6 ply for the older ones. For whatever that's worth.

Keep them out of the sun! Tires in shade or indoors last nearly forever.

I just put a pair of Carlstar tires on my drill and they still have Carlisle and Made in the USA on them.

This place linked below is local to me but i think they still have a ebay store and ship as well. They have tires up to 20 ply. Ply rating is something a lot of people ignore on tractor tires. Some of the "cheaper" R1 tires nowdays are 4 ply. I personally try to get 12ply or heavier. We had 4 ply on a DEERE that blackberry thorns won out on. Ive never seen a tire before get ruined by blackberry thorns. We swapped them to 12 plys and havent had a issue since.

I don't know how they can get away with that, there is no way the section width or the tread width are the same between those two tires.

Section width is obviously way different between the two.

Also the aspect ratio cannot be the same either looking at the pic, (dividing a tire's height off of the rim by its width) Certainly looks like the new R1 has a much higher ratio and they likely did it by shorting on the section width of the carcass, or the section width of the old tire is more eight inches?

Measure section width on both tires 'bulge to bulge' of the side wall is either one 8 inches?

I need to replace both front R1's on my tractor soon and hoping they are not narrowed down either.

Already wish they were a bit wider than what was supplied new. Sure seems like these companies are fudging the numbers today, of course only in their favor as far as material costs.

If replacing a single rear Lug tire, Count the Lugs. I wasn't aware that cheaper could mean fewer Lugs and I ended up with Road noise with 4 fewer lugs on a large 4.75 New Holland Tractor rear.

This is an interesting thread, some of the posts are actually hilarious. That said I spent several hours looking and researching tires this past week.

The Titan Hi-Traction lug R1 tires in 11.2-24 on my Branson 8050 have had some bad looking sidewalls for a few years, the tread is only about half wore down but one of then has developed a split in the center of the tire. I'm going to replace them now rather then in a snowstorm in January after they wad the tire chains up. Titan has 3 tires with the same name and size but different load ratings, all three of them have different loaded rolling circumferences. Because this tractor's main use is snow and driveway maintenance with just a bit of hay ground and planting on occasion I decided not to go back with R1's.

After much research and calculating I'm going with a BKT Ridemax IT 696 it is a traction radial with a much higher load rating then then the Titan 11.2-24 with 8 ply had of 2540 pounds, these new BKT's have a load rating over 4700 pounds. The 300/80R24 spec'ed a bit smaller then my Titans which even at half worn had enough lead to feel when disengaging the 4wd, when I measured the actual loaded rolling circumference which per the spec's was 134", I had about 126" and if I lowered the air pressure I could get down to 123" which no no lead. These tires spec'ed at 129.8".

After much research the best online price was $494 each, one of my local tractor dealers ( a CIH) came in at $505, they should be in this week. I have got to call around for a good mounting price or I may do it my self. At 100+ pounds per tire they will not be too bad.

I still have the Firestone - 16.9x28 on the rear of the Kubota. I would never consider changing tires myself. I don't have the equipment. Each rear tire is loaded with 775 pounds of RimGuard. Tire, rim and RimGuard > 1000 pounds. One slight slip and "squashed like a bug" comes to mind.

It isn't as bad as you might think, it takes a bit of time but once the fluid fill is "pumped" or pushed out using air, if you have liquid fill I have bolt on iron. Then the bead is broken with the tires still mounted to the tractor. We don't remove the rim from the tractor during the process. So lifting or moving a heavy tire and rim just the tire which can be a handfull in it's self, my small fronts at 11.2-24 or 300/80-24 are a bit over a 100 pounds each.
