In the near future my family plans to own some land. The size of the land will range from 50 acres to 500 acres. The land will be used for recreation, hunting, and possibly the sight of a future home.I took the liberty of tackling the task of finding the right equipment for the land. I am in need of a "do it all" type tractor. The tractor will be used to clear paths in the woods for dirtbike/ATV use, snow plowing/removing, towing/hauling various loads (when the Jeep gets stuck in mud), taking down/uprooting trees.

I do not have specific weights on what will be towed/hauled. 4 wheel drive is necessary, there is no way around that. I would like to go with a diesel engine due to its longevity and torque capabilities, however a gasoline engine will be considered. The tractor will be maintained and cared for meticulously and will not be abused or beat on.

I know the description is very general, but this will be our first large utility tractor. Most of you have many years experience with various tractors and various jobs for your tractors. Could someone point me in the right direction here?

What's your budget for the tractor? Are you considering only new equipment? Or are you interested in used stuff? Used horsepower generally is cheaper than new horsepower.

Remember, large acreage usually requires large tractors that need bigger, more expensive implements. So what are we talking about here: implements (mowers, discs, scrapers, box blades, etc) in the 4-5 foot range or in the 8-10 foot range, or larger?

Trees--how large are these?

Think through your implement needs first and then check out the tractors in your price range that have the hp to handle these things.
