Welding Web Down?

There should be a couple more forums.

More brands of welders. At least specific ones for the advertisers - Everlast etc.
One I brand I followed there that I would like to see here is HF. Experimenters mod these cheap welders and post circuit diagrams etc as they build them up. Dunno if there is widespread interest for this, though. Maybe instead General Welder Repair and Modifications for people who get into the guts of the units.

For Sale. Definitely! I scored two welders and accessories with original price near $1k for $25 over there, from a mad scientist type who ran out of things to modify and lost interest in them.

General BS. Somebody's dog had puppies or something and he just has to post a dozen photos to show the world.

And re structure - I think a searchable photo gallery is needed. I, for one, re-use photos going back to 2004 that are on here, to illustrate stuff to newbies. It would be nice to make them easy to find.

Re moderator, sorry no. I have a lot of opinions as a forum reader but I know near nothing about welding. Anything I post on-topic is limited to beginner questions.

Also I recognize how thankless the role is, and I don't have the patience to suffer fools. I've been a moderator for over a decade on a small VB based board. I cost them some lost members when some fool burst into a Yanmar Tractor technical discussion out of the blue and said 'California!! You and everybody in California wears one silver glove like Michael Jackson!!!' . WTF???? My reply was uh intemperate :). Turned out he had several admirers in a regional clique who departed the board along with him after we went a few more rounds. He kept accusing me of abusing moderator status, I couldn't convince him I simply found him intolerable but I hadn't used any moderator magic beyond what I was saying to him publicly. Losing that cabal of members was an unforseen setback for that board. No, never again.

My 12 forums would be

Processes
1 MIG
2 Stick
3 Oxy-fuel
4 Tig

Fabrication
5 Making things
6 Fixing things

Tools
7 Cutting
8 Drilling
9 Grinding
10 Other

Welders
11 Miller
12 Lincoln
13 Other

General Help
14 For all other questions

Well that is 14 what to do.

I think you can go simpler, especially to start. Expand and break our subforums as volume of posts drives it:

1. General topics

2. Weld processes - MIG, TIG, Stick, Oxy-fuel

3. Fabrication - design, building, forming, joining, machining

4. Tools & Shops - equipment, setups, shop photos, etc

5. Projects & Pictures

6. Safety

Brand specific
7. Miller
8. Lincoln
9. Hobart
10. Others (or add more individual ones as you see fit)

11. Off-Topic ( ya always gotta have one or the regular forums descend into chaos...)

This isn't terribly far off what WW has right now, but then I think their structure is pretty simple and solid overall.

My 2 cents..

Edit - Oh yeah #12 - For sale/services offered.

Works for me...

It would be nice to have a section for folks who actually work in the trade or just have many years of experience, maybe call it certified welding or something, that would be the first thread I look at.

And maybe a area to discuss cheap imported tools and welders, that would be the last. ;)

How about a Politically Incorrect Forum?
I'm in!

Still having a hard time not saying, Secretary or Stewardess. Can we at least find a single word to replace them instead of office administrator or flight attendant?

I'm mostly politically incorrect, so I need that part. Took a Frontier Airlines plane from Portland to Denver last August and the head "stewardess" was trained by the Wright Bros!

A relative had worked up to resident station agent in one of their smaller markets. Then the airline went bankrupt and his lifetime savings in his pension and stock bonuses, evaporated.

He switched over to flight attendant. Usually as Purser based on his experience as station agent-in charge previously, now responsible for stocks of food etc and supervision. He hadn't wanted to travel extensively until then but soon he realized what he had been missing. While this paid substantially more that wasn't the chief benefit he now appreciated ...
