Used Diesel PT-425

It looks like such a custom job that it makes me wonder why he is selling after doing all that work?

All the chinese mini-ex machines with Kubota diesels....why in the world doesn't PT sell a 25hp factory diesel?

I suspect price.

Still, I think it looks like a great little machine. I'm a bit surprised on the low machine hours and low hours to engine replacement.

All the best,

Peter

I'd be ramming those fuel and battery boxes into stuff all the time. A cab sounds nice in winter (back when we used to have winter), and it says it has heat. That would be nice.

However, I used to have a cabbed tractor that did not have air. Summers were brutal. Even with the doors and rear window removed. You'd get cooked in there.

If I were further north I'd consider it.

I asked kristy why they didnt offer a 25hp diesel and was told it was cost. But I see small 14 hp or so kubota diesels in the chinese mini excavators selling at auction for $6500 or so. I would think there is an affordable diesel option to be had.

Basically, it comes down to cost of the engine and how much has to be paid to get a reliable diesel; Kubota, Yanmar, Deutz. If it is not reliable the service costs to PT would be too high.

That Kubota is about as cheap as you can go for a reliable diesel in my experience.

There are less expensive diesels available, but parts and reliability gets to be real issues.

All the best,

Peter

I think he means the QA is operated from inside the cab, not that the hoses connect inside the cab. Just like a standard PT.

Innovative in that it appears he located the fuel tank on the right rear saddle and the battery on the left rear.

I do wonder if his cab rubs the hydraulic tank on full articulation and oscillation, though. More pictures would verify.

But as others mentioned, boy that's a nice job! (y)
Yeah, my bad, he is talking about the quick attach.👍

OK... 25hp is 25hp no matter what's making it, a gas or diesel engine. It's 25hp. That's fact.

You'd need a 25hp motor to drive the PT425 and spin the 60" mower at max RPM at the same time, while having enough oomph to keep it there.

Excavators aren't driving high speed wheel motors while spinning high speed implement motors at the same time. They just drive cylinders and low speed motors. That's why they can get away with smaller HP engines.

In the past, we've figured the PTO on the PT425 puts out a little less than 12hp alone. So a 14hp engine would only leave 2hp for locomotion, whereas a 25hp would leave 13.

Start pricing 25hp diesels that spin at 3600rpm (speed needed for max pump output). ;)

Kubota also makes 25hp diesels. Tym makes entire sub compact diesel tractors for roughly the same price of a pt425.

Yep. And look at the size and weight of them. The 425 is only 42" wide, and weighs roughly 1500 pounds. Try and fit that Kubota or TYM engine in the 425 tub without increasing dimensions.

I would think he was selling because it didn't live up to his expectations. The articulation might work ok on a level driveway, but take on uneven terrain and there may be a lot of interference between cab and engine compartment. The cab may make it somewhat unstable on side hills depending on your expectations.

25hp? I am with you, but what about the formerly 30hp diesel powered PT1430 now gas?

Not only the chinese equipment, look at Avant and Giant, small loaders that both use Kubota diesel engines.

I don't think you can buy an air (or oil) cooled diesel anymore. So to install a late model diesel in a PT, you need to reengineer for a radiator liquid cooling system. So making if longer or higher, either way will cause its own problems.

RPMs don't matter on a new product, they would just size a different pump for the lower RPMs.
