Folks,
I would like to get a 16 or 18 ft 7000 lb double axle trailer to tow my new TC40D. It seems like new trailers are more expensive here than they are in the south. I don't want to spend too much ($1200) for example, but haven't had any luck finding anything under 2 grand. I would appreciate any suggestions folks might have finding a good deal on a used one in this neck of the woods.

I will tow it with my F700, 13 ton GVW truck.
Thanks as always.
Larry

Give Tom a call at Tom's Equipment in Hicory, PA (Pittsburg Area) His number is 724-356-7300. He is one of the largest trailer distributors in PA. Tell him the Century/Zetor rep suggested you call.

Larry, I have an 18' trailer I haul my TC45D on. I don't have loaded rear tires, or I'd be over the weight limit with the loader and boxblade or rotary cutter on the tractor. If you can spend the extra money for a 10,000 lb trailer, I'd do it. If I had not had my trailer for several years before buying my TC45D, I'd have bought one with heavier specs. The attachment shows me taking delivery with my new tractor in 2001. I paid $1095 for my trailer in 1997 (I added the sideboards and tailgate.). You are correct that they are much cheaper down here in Texas.

Larry, Hi, neighbor! I'm in Fairport. Have you checked out Nyle's Trailers on 31F in Fairport? He will come down if you haggle with him, how much I don't know. I know what you mean about then trailers being more $$$ here in NY. I got mine used for $1000 about 4 years ago. (see attached photo) I added the sides for hauling mulch and firewood. You should be able to find a used one this time of the year from some of the landscaper's that are getting out of that kind of work. Just make sure it is strong enough to hold your tractor. I've read that the ones with the raised side rails are not as strong as the ones that are like mine. Also make sure that its long enough to haul tractor and all attachments that you need. Good luck in your search. Von

Today I just picked up a new 7'x20' equipment hauler trailer with 2' beavertail and fold up ramps for $1,995 here in N. Florida. It has (2) 7,000 lb. axles both with electric brakes. I'll post a pic of it in the next few days. I shopped around and this was the best price I could find.

I should have traveled north for my trailer i paid $2600 for a 7 X 20 with 2 foot beaver tail and fold up ramps, in south florida. Best price in the area I could find.

Jim, that's a darn good price for a trailer with those features. I think you did very well. The dealer must have been a little "hungry" to give you that deal.

JIm that is a great price that you would never find up in the north where the snow flurries are currently flying /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Larry,

Try Klaben Trailer Sales in Auburn, NY. They are located just east of Auburn on State Route 5. 315-253-8643.

My neighbor purchased a trailer that is 18' x 8' (82" between fenders), 12,000 pound gross, dual axle with brakes on all 4 wheels, for about $1900. It has a beaver tail with swing down ramps. He uses it to transport his JD 4600 (FEL and Backhoe) to job sites.

This sounds like more trailer than you are looking for so they might have a trailer closer to your price range that fits your needs. Word of caution on the 7,000 lb gross you mentioned. If you are just hauling the tractor, that will be fine but if you want to haul implements too you may run out of capacity. Given the size of truck you have to haul, there may come a time when you wished you had more trailer capacity.

Good luck in your search,

Jeff

Yes, I was very happy with the price. I bought it from the manufacturer. They have about a 10 acre lot with multiple buildings and trailers supplies everywhere. They really crank out some volume. Company is called Bray Trailers in Newberry, FL. and they advertise on traderonline.com under equipment trader.

Today I loaded up the L4300DT with FEL and 286 (6') Bush Hog and took it out for a test drive. I was surprised it all fit. I estimate the tractor and mower are probably around 6,000+ lbs.. The trailer did fine and with the Teknosha Prodigy brake controller, stopping from speed was uneventful. No "pushing" felt from the trailer at all.

I had Bray build the trailer for a 2 5/16" ball and I purchased a ball mount and ball that had 9,000 lb and 10,000 ratings respectively. I didn't want to skimp on the ball and the mount when pulling such a heavy load.

Now we get to pull that load to Maine in less than 2 weeks. Wish me luck!

There will be an auction in Groveland south of Geneseo the first weekend in December. Teitsworth runs it and always has some good equipment trailers. You may just get a bargain.

Too bad you couldn't load up another trailer (tandem) and take it with you. I know a fellow named Larry in New York who is looking for a good trailer at a great price. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

JIm,
You're right. I did find a 16 ft tandem used here in Rochester for 1,250 that I should be able to pick up tomorrow. I am moving to our little farm this week and need the trailer badly. Finally instead of traveling down to see my pond filling I will be able to look out the window.
Thanks all,
Larry
