Anyone have a good engine for a 3200? mine seems to have spun its bearings, im afraid it was my fault. I purchased it from a gov auction and spun the starter to raise the bed. Come to find out that the engine has no oil in it when i could get to it :(

Got the Mitsubishi 3-cylinder gas engine? Or one of the diesels?

Either way, new bearing shells should be available for a rebuild. Camshaft may be scored, too.

3 cylinder gas. It think its the Mitsubishi 3g83? yea ive seen the bearings on ebay for like 200. the camshaft would be hard to repair for me. Has anyone swapped in a diesel in place of the gas? ive got a kubota d722 laying around that i was thinking of installing.

Toro Tim,
Just depends on just how good you are at fab work!
I would seriously consider buying one with the Mitsubishi diesel engine already in it, and using yours for parts or selling it to recoup some of the money. If it has a good carb on it, they bring a pretty penny. Coming from a gov auction, it has probably sat up long enough to need rebuilding. Can it be done, absolutely, but it requires some definite "outside the box" thinking. It actually might be easier to convert it to an air cooled engine like the newer ones have.
I need a governor and a carb for the 3 cylinder Mitsubishi, so if you are anywhere in the south, or midwest, I might be interested if you part it out. Actually for those small parts, UPS would probably work from anywhere.
Is yours an open station or a cab? Does it have any optional equipment, like a pto, generator, scissor lift or such?

BTW, there is an engine on Facebook marketplace up in the midwest. Same guy has a Toro without an engine in it, and my TN buddy says that engine isn't the same engine as the Toro uses (which is why he didn't put it in the chassis?) Selling price was about $1150 last time I looked at it. Reason for mentioning this, is I don't want you to make the same mistake that seller made.
I can put you in touch with the TN guy who said it won't work if you need to know.
For that kind of money, you might find a whole vehicle with a good engine but bad carb or a bad transmission. (I have bought both at around that price)
TN guy bought a tank sprayer unit missing the tranny and carb for about $200 and I bought a good running cab unit with bed and DOORS for about $2k. Together we bought a complete unit that ran when gas was sprayed in carb, for about $400.
Bottom line, they are out there.
As far as your original engine, why do you think the bearings are bad? No longer than it takes to run a bed up using the starter, the residual oil in the bearings would probably keep it from tearing them up. They run for several seconds every time you go to start them without any oil pressure.
I would seriously go thru the hassle of getting it running before I tore into a motor or before I gave up on it.

...and rebuilding the engine, if necessary, is gonna be easier that trying to adapt a different engine to the existing clutch and transmission.

open cab, no optional equipment on it unfortunately. I tried to buy another one (3000hr 4x4 diesel) yesterday but it sold for almost 2k which i though was a bit too much considering they didnt say if it ran well. they did say it was missing some axle parts it think. Id really like to get mine going, it would be useful to have a mini dump truck on the farm, id probably use it to shuttle bales off the field when we pick up grass. Ill let you know if i part the engine out on mine, but i think ill tear into it first to see how bad the damage is. If its just a matter of some main bearings then that should be an manageable fix.

I messed with starting it before I read about raising the bed.Probably turned it over for about 2 min total and I know it didnt make noises when i started. oh mine will run on starting fluid but it makes a nice squeak every so often. It really sounds like the main bearing is gone. Normally I think things thru but that day I replaced intelligence with an eagerness to fire it up. I am now smarter about checking fluids and one project deeper haha

fair point, i just read that the guys said it only had but 4 bolts on the housing, thought it might be quick to bolt another engine to it

Yeah, I posted about there being only 4 bolts that hold engine to bellhousing. Fabricating an adapter will be a lot of work.

Note that you can lift the bed without starting the engine. Crank the engine with the starter (pull the coil wire first) and the bed lever actuated. You can remove the plugs to make it even easier.
