Slab is getting poured, unfortunately the weather changed over night for the worse. Cold, windy, and rained some overnight, darn red oak decided to drop all its leaves onto the pour.View attachment 603023

Sorry to see this. Did they tell you the big lie that they would pull up the rebar while spreading the concrete? Guy in the picture is standing right on top of the rebar!!! At least you have proof in the picture if you decided to sue them.

I watched them pull it up, they were waiting on the truck that was late in those pictures so just standing around. It's hard to tell in the pics but it appeared to be in the bottom 1/3rd of the slab. I've seen worse flatwork but was a bit disappointed in it, granted we also had less then ideal conditions. 1253195444.jpeg

The brown and black is Shelby, raised her from a 6 week old pup, she use to ride with me when I had my transport company. The all black is Bruno, he's a SPCA rescue.

Unfortunately last April I had to put down Shelby due to her health, still haven't gotten over losing her, Bruno is still a little depressed too.941820579.jpeg1398433311.jpeg456509505.jpeg

Framing want pretty well, had a good crew that got it done in about a week. Walls are 2x61519433445.jpeg2035173151.jpeg2076432316.jpeg1116039811.jpeg

Framing done and sheathing on, now it was my turn to get back to work on it.

I'm not a fan of underfloor hvac ducts in concrete personally. I do have it setup so I can slide pex or even abs through conduit for the main water line when the time comes. Wish I had room for an office, right now I'm looking at just doing a small bathroom at some point.

What’s your ceiling height? Would you be able to allow floor space for a small office and build a mezzanine overhead? The workbench and machine tools (lathe , drill press etc which don’t require extreme height) could be underneath.

16.5ft, patience BB! We're still at the framing stage lol

I didn't really get any pics of the roof other then this one of the underlayment. I went with a dark dimensional shingle that matched the house. I was pretty busy trying to get the roof on before we had bad weather, as you can see in the background I did get snowed on once or twice. 2096116804.jpeg

The biggest delay was getting all the trim board up so I could do the drip rail, i went with PVC for all the trim boards on the building.

Next was the doors and windows, the garage door was fun (18x14 insulated), lots of hardware! I had to use a come-along to lift the last panel into place, you can see my dad in the last picture getting ready for the "lift".

Doors all in and working, you can kind of see the trim in the pictures, still working on the tyvek, man that stuff isnt fun to work with if theres any wind!
1272342199.jpeg236438648.jpeg

Also a pic of the floor after grinding, the cold joint area left a rough spot that extended in a stepped line that extended across the middle of the shop (the same line you can see in the concrete pour pictures). Man those walk behind grinders wear you out!

Of course there was a wind storm that knocked a pine tree down, luckily didn't hit my nice new roof but only missed it by a couple feet!1043695474.jpeg

What???! You’re sticking to your timeline and keeping the journey structured? None of the randomness of MY shop thread rubbed off on you yet?!

LOL. Ok, I’ll wait patiently.

Did you compare cost of wood framing vs metal building ? Why did you go with wood ? Just curious trying to plan out my dream shop. Looks great so far keep up the good work.:drink:

Thank you!
I did, looked at pole barns, light framed steel (like a carport), red iron, and stick built. It came down to stick or red iron, cost was pretty close The main reason I went with what I did was for ease of buildout on the interior and to be able to better match the house since they are so close to each other.

If I build another shop when I retire/move, it will quite possibly be a red iron, however I also plan on being able to go much bigger

I went thru the same process deciding on my shop style.

I was in a red iron shop and really liked it. Until I built my new stick built. Like it much better. Soooo much easier to fimish. Cleaner look inside. Very easy to modify or add to. I ended at $43 per square foot.

Yup ease of modifying/ adding on, I'm a little bit less then you which makes me feel better about it lol, but I guess a lot of that depends on how much gets hired out and how its built.

I have to laugh when people talk about how little a building should cost when their estimates won't even cover materials. Not sure what their secret is, but I'm guessing it's more due to not actually adding everything up.

I knew it! I was raised in Major County S.E. of Fairview, just a hoot and a holler from the Cimarron River. My Dad ran the sand plant there at Ames, and the only thing that would grow in our yard was sand burrs! And lots of them! I have lots of stories, but you probably know about bicycle tires, dog boots and goat heads.

I'm always amused at cost discussions. Very, very rare to visit with someone that will disclose the entire cost. I count everything. Everything.

My favorite saying to people is "You might be able to build a similar building cheaper than mine, but you can't build this building cheaper". Very few fully understand what I'm saying. They just continue to ramble on about their intentions. :)

Good friend of mine has a 1500 sq ft 12ft eave pole building with concrete, lights, tiny bit of insulation, one overhead, one walk in, two windows. $25K. Door/window framing laid flat. Concrete so uneven you notice it when walking or standing around. Impossible to heat in temps under freezing. He's happy. I'm happy for him.

These two pictures really surprised me. The first one shows you truck from the outside, and it looks like a fair sized shop, but the second picture really shows how massive the space is and your truck looks tiny!!!

The walk in was my indicator. :)

You're gonna have a very nice shop.

I'm in a holding pattern on deciding whether to go stick built or not.
I've had a 30x50 red iron shop for 20 yrs.
Building walls in it was a job, in fact I farmed out the initial wall framing. I've got no real finished ceiling and have got used to never worrying about raising anything in the air. (lumber, fishin poles, whatever)

I really want to do a stick built 40x60 but I'm finding out there will be no overhead storage with the trusses on 4'OC.
I suspect for the "metal building" folks to build it with different style framing to allow attic space will cost my butt.
