That't the "universal reason" for grandmas to go shopping when they can't think of another good excuse. It's kinda like us finding an excuse to go to Harbor Freight because we "need" a tool for the tractor.

What Christams shopping that I do, I do during the summer. I HATE shopping, and hate the holiday crowds. I get things as I find them for friends, so all that I have to do after Halloween is wrap!
Shopping is for those that don't have enough things to do on their tractor!

Our Walmart in Bowie is putting out Halloween stuff this week, Back-to-school stock is old stuff already.

School begins next week, so Back to School is old stuff. What bothers me is when places put out Christmas stuff, before we have had Halloween.

I was hoping you would not ask. Those colorful things that hang or twirl or dangle in the wind, and/or the colorful accents to enhance a festive mood, excluding balloons and pink flamingos.

Hobby and Arts and Craft places have Christmas out in summer, because many people make their own decorations and gifts. Having that stuff available in the summer allows people to buy the goods for crafting their own, in time to be ready for the holidays.
If you don't need large items, Dollar General, and places like that have summer items, such as whirlys and garden flags, etc. Much of that will likely be on clearance now, or soon.

Jim- Christmas shopping & Harbor Freight is the perfect comparison............Like Mt Everest, because it's there.

FG- After 10 years in Retail, Christmas shopping is way down the list. It's hard to just get in the parking lot most of the time. I do some of it on the internet, which is pretty painless, and checking out the local Farm Stores for something shinny from Montana Silversmiths works pretty well. Farm Stores don't seem to be all that busy during the Christmas Season.
If I get over to Emory there's always great shopping at Hooten's, where they sell everything from bunk feeders to rifles to kitchen gadgets to just about anything you would want. If you're every in Emory it is well worth the stop. It's a great place to kill an hour or two.

Yesterday I had Jury Duty,, I was planning on cutting one of the hay fields and baling today.. glad I had jury duty and didn't get to cut the field.. it been raining all morning here at the house and at the land.:cool2:. Where the hay field is.. Ten miles away.. It's true the Lord does take care of the old, ugly and dumb.. I am covered on all three.. Lou

Woohoo! It is wonderful to hear that the rain is falling somewhere in Texas!
Since the "pond rake girl" must have been detoured to somewhere in Brazoria county, TX :confused3: we continued taking the floating algae out of the pond by using the rope. Since the poly rope floats, the trick is getting the right amount of weight tied to it while having an empty milk jug keeping it from sinking to the bottom. That part of the rope then skims along just below the surface and catches the algae. Pulling the rope from opposite shores at a slow "pace" collects algae all along the rope. We then tossed the algae into the FEL.
After 6 FEL buckets removed the pond has regained most of its mirror quality.
There were hundreds of 3-4" bluegills that we tossed back in the pond that were stuck in the algae.
I have read that this algae is good for garden mulch or around trees. Have any of you used it that way?

I always put such as that in my compost heap, along with anything else that isn't chemical or high in animal fat. I don't know why it wouldn't make a good mulch, as it should help hold in the moisture in a flowerbed or garden row.

I didn't see your post last night. A full moon shot that way would be neat. I'll have to work on it the next clear, full moon night. The full moon is actually much brighter than most people realize when it comes to photographing it. I may have to do an HDR, blend of 3 or more exposures to get enough light on the ground as well without blowing out the details in the moon surface.. The Coyotes will love having me down there at night.
Meanwhile here is a "Goose Morning" to Y'all from the visitors that stopped by for breakfast this morning,
