Dennis, I just quit. I had a full carton and a pack in my pocket for two weeks and didn't touch them. Withdrawal was the hardest of all. Luckily, instead of blaming everyone else or cigarettes, I just blamed myself for ever starting when I was 21 and knew better. I never wanted a nicotine substitute or any other crutch. Cold turkey was tough because I had a 2-pack+ habit. I hated the mess, the smell, and my hacking cough. After two weeks, I could complete a spoken sentence without coughing. That was all I needed to keep going until I was in control. Tough, tough, tough, but worth every second of misery in my opinion. My only regret is that my mom and dad weren't living when I quit. Neither of them ever smoked and they were disappointed that I ever started. I think smoking was the only thing I ever did that they weren't proud of. I say you should just find your motivation and do it, the sooner the better. But don't do it for anyone else but yourself. When you do it for yourself, you are really doing it for everyone. You'll realize that as soon as you have not smoked for a month and get around somebody who does smoke. People will treat you better just because your odor doesn't repel them. . . and they like riding in your car too.:)

Well, nobody has to look any further than WinStar to see that it's a money making enterprise. That place is turning into a megloplex of all kinds of activities. They even have an indoor bull riding arena (my bet is always on the bull ).

Oh, but the bullriders are such nice "eye candy". Well, they were until they got so darn young!

Getting a nice shower here! Can't believe we can get rain 3 days in a row, this late in June, but I'll take all of this that it wants to give! Woohoo!

Jim, I cant blame anyone, that wouldn't make much sense, because it is done out of choice. Personally I enjoy it and not going to lie about that! If I had the cough and hacking, that may make a difference. Never cared if someone wanted to ride with me, the other option is their car or walk:laughing: But the moral of what you said, is the bottom line, it's better all around.

Dont know wher I heard this but " It's fun to do what you like to do, until it's time to do what you're supposed to do"

I'm gonna accuse you of illegal backfield motion and a nekkid rain dance if you keep getting the rain I ordered this way:raincloud::cloud::umbrella-guy:

It's all north of me now, unclear if it will get here

Casinos are a good idea .. If you build it they will come .. It's funny that during the toughest of times the parking lot is full at the casinos .. Folks always find ways to go to them.

How'd you 3 (Jim,Mike, Bird) deal with it after words??

Dennis, we'd been ordering our cigarettes, 30 cartons at a time, from an Indian reservation in New York. And I was smoking a bit more than 2 packs a day. I'm sure different methods work for different people. But I just decided to quit. I smoked the last cigarette in a pack just before I went to bed one night, and just never opened another pack. I never had any physical withdrawal symptoms, but there was definitely a habit. I'd catch myself reaching for my shirt pocket only to find nothing there. If I'd had a pack in my pocket, like Jim said he did, I might not have quit.

And when I quit, we had 19 cartons on hand. Margaret kept smoking, but not in the house, always went out on the patio after I quit. And of course she was smoking less. So those 19 cartons lasted her a year after I quit. I think she bought a couple of packs twice before she quit completely. Now she has COPD, but I don't.

I know all the "experts" assure us that smoking is terrible and is going to cause a cancer that will kill us, but it sure has not worked that way for my family. My Dad smoked nearly all his life; his dad never smoked. They both died at the age of 80. My Dad's mother was adamantly opposed to smoking, never smoked, died a terrible death from lung cancer at the age of 73. Dad's oldest sister smoked for a couple years as a young woman, then quit. She died of cancer at the age of 64. My mother never smoked; said she tried it one time, and liked it; just didn't want to spend the money. But she was around second hand smoke all her life. Her dad was a heavy smoker and then of course my Dad smoked. Mother said she liked the smell of the smoke. She died at the age of 85, but it wasn't from cancer.

So I agree that it probably ain't good for you, and cancer is not a good way to die, but it happens to people whether they smoke or not. And I've already lived longer than I expected to. I am getting a bit short of strength and stamina, but overall, I reckon I'm in pretty good shape for an old man.

Of course, three and a half hours of yard work in 93 degree heat nearly killed me Friday.

Yep! Casinos and NASCAR racetracks are packed every time they open. We've got the NASCAR track and even a horse track, but no casinos.:confused3: Of course, I'm talking about Texas owning the casinos or getting a substantial cut and leasing rights. In Oklahoma, all the proceed except for employee salaries goes to the Indian Nation doesn't it? . . . and I think that's as it should be.

Farmgirl19, I got 1/4" out of that shower. It moved right over the top of me and just stopped.

Bird, out of my 4 grandparents, 1 that smoked died from a stroke. The 3 that never smoked, all died of various cancer.??

You do get around for an "old cop" When I 1st joined TBN, I had got an invitation to go celebrate your b-day. I didn't go, by the time I "learned" about the private message, the party was already a month over:laughing: I didn't even know I had a message:eek: Must have been your 50th:laughing::D

I only got about 2/19ths, but I have had "my fair share" I guess over the last couple days. Does that make me a 1%'er:shocked:

I got 1/4 inch if rain too! Brings the 3 day total to 1.95 inches. For this time of year, that is awesome! Maybe the rain gods got tired of seeing me dance naked, and decided they'd send me rain, so that I'd put my clothes back on or go inside! :cool2:

Where'd you get a rain guage that measures 19ths of an inch?;) (I think you meant 2/10ths, but I gotta give you a hard time.:)

I smoked for 30 years and quit in 1998. I don't mind the occasional smell of smoke, but inside these big casinos, there is no place to get away from it. It seems to permeate everything. If they had a non-smoking section, I'd be okay with it, but the new WinStar is wide open inside where you feel like you are walking from country to country. The one constant throughout is the stale smell of smoke. To make it worse, you find a machine you like and somebody comes along and sits beside you while puffing away. . . payback I guess. I think it's all really still a tent with just a facade around the outside to make it look like a building. Of course, the new hotels and shopping areas around the casino are real buildings.

I absolutely LOVE to dance! (Not just to try to get it to rain.) I quit going dancing, because of the smoke filled buildings. I'd come home tired and go to bed, only to wake up an hour later, smelling the stale smoke in my hair, and then I'd get up and go climb in the shower, before I could try to go back to sleep. So, while I have never been a smoker, I can sure relate to your post.

Edit: I had that coming Jim:laughing::thumbsup:

FG19, we all chipped in, because it is cheaper than to have to pool our money to bail you out:D

I have to add that I am very proud of those of you that have quit smoking. I've had family members that smoked, and seen how hard it was for them to even try to quit, and some wouldn't even try. All have died horrible deaths, and the rest of us were left behind to watch and wish it were not so. Knowing how hard it was for them, I cannot help but be very proud of those of you that actually quit. You are each a hero, in my book!

Aint even going there:laughing: But glad you finally got some rain, check your pond yet?, I hear Jim is almost at full pool level

I think it will take 3-5 days of solid, steady rain to get my tank anywhere near full. At least with the last 3 days, it isn't going down, right now!
