Caught mole #3 WHOOOT

So, what kind of trap are you using? I've had no luck at all in getting rid of those things.

We don't have moles in northern Wise County, we deported them all south across Big Sandy Creek and set up a patrol of mole-esters to keep them away.

My stepson had tons of moles in his yard in Boyd, but all we seem to have here is a few voles hiding under rocks. The only things that burrow around here are armadillos and rabbits. The rabbits like to burrow down into my St. Augustine grass and make nests. Then the cats find the nest and my wife goes nuts tryin' to save the bunnies from her kitties. I guarantee you that's a game you can't win. She loves the bunnies and the kitties. Whatcha gonna do?:confused3:

I would suggest changing your carnivorous cat's diet to that of a herbivorous rabbit, Then everyone will be happy. (except that Dr in Denmark:D) ((I'm baiting FG19))

Does that make cats "Paleo" dieters?

Yeah! That'll happen when Whipper becomes best buddies with your snakes.

It's not a eating thing with Whipper when it comes to snakes, it's a who can bite who first. She is winning at 87%.

She has been seen munching a mouse, gopher, bird, rabbit, deer leg??? I'm still looking for that 3 legged deer.

Yes it does, and they usually die of heart disease. (not) Interesting I was just reading this morning around 30% of mummies had heart disease. Didn't work then... ((Double bait))

Oh by the way "The Century Study" contacted me yesterday to tell me I can now apply to enter their study - we will settle the debate. They have 750 participants so far and it is a 5 year study. Some are finishing up their 5 years and all they can tell me is that they are excited about the preliminary results. They are funded for up to 1300 participants - google it if you are interested.

Good, when you clear yours out, I'll send you some more from here! :D

NOOO Thanks! I only want "my fair share":D

So, what kind of trap are you using? I've had no luck at all in getting rid of those things.

Bird, I have been using the victor Out-O-Sight trap. I also bought one of their "spear" type also, but dont like it and it has never "gone off". I did notice I was "missing" several moles, so I zip tied a 3/4" or so piece of limb to the trigger pan and I also try to place the trigger rod as far up the "catch" as safely possible without it going off. This has made setting them easy, I dig the little hole so the claws can close, I dont mound any dirt, I just push the trap in until the piece of wood I added sits about 1/2" from the bottom of the hole (where the mole will crawl). I take a photo next time i pull one. Hardest thing has been finding the active runs, they are bad this year.

Jim, Moles are normally a "woodland" varmint (yeah I been stud'n:D) I haven't had them bad until this year, but I have always been able to find their "sign" further out on the property. I have noticed when I water the lawn or flower beds, they show up soon after. There was no sign in my garden, I found the underground trails by accident, then it rained and the garden was riddled with "wash-outs". 2 of the moles have been caught on a main trail from the garden to my yard.

Some facts I found interesting. Moles are FAST, travel up to 80' in 1 minute in their tunnels. They can dig 15'-20'' in an hour. Setting traps in a "mound" is worthless, main trails are best.
