I put in another hog trap this morning and baited it all up.

Back in March I put up a nice, big corral trap to try to catch a whole sounder that was runnin' around on my land for a couple days. As soon as I got that trap up, I never saw a hog on my cameras again.

Then on Sunday, we were out picking up some large limbs that I didn't get to chip, and saw some nosing around in the pasture. GRRR. So I re-baited the corral trap, but it looks like they didn't want to make it all 100 yards over from the fresh rootings to the trap.

So I moved in a smaller trap close to where they've been rooting this morning. We'll see what happens. I need to stock the freezer back up with sausage![/QUOTE]

I know what you mean,, I am starting to have them show up the back pasture.. rooting up my hay fields.. grandson and friend is coming over this afternoon with dogs,, we will see.. Lou

Good luck! There's nothing more discouraging than seeing your nice, green hayfield getting tore up by a bunch of hungry pigs.

Between you and me, I think they don't know what to forecast. The last time I checked, 32 F with precip is called "snow" and not rain. If we get snow, I'll really wig out.

No kidding! That would be wild!

That's funny about the weathermen, ha! I'm sure it will be white falling from the sky and not drops if it gets down to 32.

Please be prepared....we just gotta have photos of you "wigging" out, should that occur!:cool2:

This morning the weather forecast called for 32 F tonight with a 20% chance of rain. Between you and me, I think they don't know what to forecast. The last time I checked, 32 F with precip is called "snow" and not rain. If we get snow, I'll really wig out.

Hey Jim!! Where your onions good??:D With the way this weather is going, we may have to settle for "onions". There is now way I will have time to cover much of anything, Corn, squash, zucchini, melons all up but the Okra and 4 rows of snap beans.

I worked in Grand Prairie last night, got home at 3:30am and it was 73*. I just got up so I can get a tire fixed on the dually and it reads 48.3* on the porch right now. I am supposed to work in Coppell tonight, but not looking forward to it, 38* with a 20 mph wind!! Maybe 20 years ago that would be fun:eek:

I have had 4out and only caught 2 so far, they was in our place heavy before I added the traps. I usually go spot lighting at nights but getting one at a time wasn't enough. I been catching more deer in traps then I ever have before.

I am wondering if you could set a feeder to go off like 11pm, so the hogs get used to it. After a week or so, start going out an hour before it goes off? I know they are smart enough to figure out their being hunted, but that may get you more than one the 1st go around. I never had a problem with them, but if I had, it would have been a "Holy War"

Ha, yeah I sprayed my bait corn down with diesel to keep the deer away from mine.

And like you said, trapping really does seem to be the better option. You can catch more and don't have to be actively involved (aka sitting out there until 3am) to catch 'em.

Dennis, from what I know of hogs (ain't too much), they tend to be pretty erratic in their timing. Feeders keep them coming back on a nightly basis, but they keep weird hours. Sometimes I will see them around my feeders at 7am, sometimes 3am, sometimes 8pm. They are nutty little creatures.

Yeah, that makes it more difficult, they have no problem going "somewhere else" for a spell. I have only killed a few for some ranchers while turkey hunting in West Texas, said if we killed 10, we could hunt for free:thumbsup: Between 4 of us, we took over 30 in 3 days. Nice open "Rocky" terrain. We corned the roads by the creek draws and they came in in the evenings. We all hunted for free:D Rancher kept the "piglets" seems thats the size they like to eat, I dont eat "pok"
