Does anyone with an older PT with the hydroback feel their treadle is sloppy? I have almost one inch of dead movement measured at the end of the right hand treadle on my PT-425, which feels excessive. I just don't remember how much there was when the machine was new.

All of the motion appears to be transferring to the hydroback cable properly, but not to the output shaft of the hydroback. Has anyone disassembled their hydroback or had to replace it?

Yes. I have torn down the Hydroback and cleaned everything, and put it back together and adjusted to Terry's advise, but it is still not right. There are pictures in an earlier post of mine. Basically what it is, is a spring within a spring, in a housing, that is supposed to center the pedal. A new cable for the Hydroback runs about $125.00. It is probably cheaper elsewhere.

There is some adjustment up by the pedal for the cable.

Do a search on Hydroback on this forum.

How is the cable terminated inside the hydroback? One of your posts alluded to it being loose. I did not see any pictures. I'll search again.

Edit: Found the pictures. I assume the end of the cable is threaded into the hydroback. Is there a lock nut involved?

Haven't noticed any play in mine at all (2001 model year). If you barely touch the treadle in either direction, the machine moves.

Mine works the same as Moss's. I have a 2002 PT422.

I can't remember, I tried searching for my pictures, but could not find them. I am thinking it is a nut tighten down on a nut. At the present time, I can go faster in reverse because of that cable, or something else.

Thanks, everyone. It sounds like my cable is loose inside the hydroback. I will have to take it apart. I just hope it holds together until I can get to it.

There is a nut on the cable housing that needs to show a certain of threads. If you take the Hydroback apart and clean and lube it, call Terry and he will tell you the correct number of threads. for the adjustment.

Good to know that. Thanks, J_J.

You probably have already done so, but if not, check the two bolts connecting the right and left treadles to the center section. Mine got very sloppy once and I found those bolts very loose.
