Should I buy this truck?

I recently was in the process of buying a used trailer. I asked the seller for a copy of the title. He sent me a picture of the title and the bill of sale, and the numbers did not match. I walked away from the deal.

Interesting. Around here (Michigan) trailers have no titles, just bills of sale.

This is from your states website so that would appear to be incorrect except for trailers under 2500 pounds. Tennessee trailers definitely have titles.

I wouldn’t lose any sleep over what a bill of sale says. If the title vin number and the vin stamped on the frame doesn’t match that would be a problem.

My Kauffman GN has no title and neither does the truck camper. Never has. Both insure and plate on the serial number.

Has Manual transmission and bed is too short. I need a 24’-26’ bed (3 rows of 4x8’ long bales)

I attempted to contact the seller again and reiterated that I need a pic of the title and a pic of the door jamb sticker for assurance that they match.
Haven’t heard back.

I’m beginning to lose patience.

No fuss no muss in KY. Went to the factory for my Gator. Got a bill of sale. Not taking it out of state so no need for a plate. If I were to take the bill of sale to there courthouse and get a title then I would pay a yearly license tax on it.

I assume they have a bill of origin. That’s what new trailers leave the factory with and they frequently aren’t titled to save taxes. If the first owner does title then the state takes the bill of origin and it’s sold with a title from then on.

Make sure I see the title and make sure it matches the truck, but so far seller is unwilling. Only wants to reveal title to my bank.
I guess I could have said “I’m paying cash for it”, then maybe he would be more willing to show it to me?
I’m 1,000 miles away, so I at least want proof I’m getting a truck with a title.
Would prefer to have someone look at it, but I don’t have any contacts near Huntsville.
The VIN on the invoice checks out to be an ‘06 Sterling 9500 with a 12.7L Caterpillar engine. Last titled state was shown as TN. No accidents or recalls. No rebuilds or anything out of the ordinary.

Remember he might just be as cautious as the seller as you are as the buyer. There's a lot of "shenanigans" out there in today's world.
Reassurance of only wanting a photographic confirmation of the numbers with you being waaay out of state is a concern that's understandable.
Tell him that you don't want any person names or addresses show, just the Vin matching on the 2 pictures and remind him to put himself in your shoes in this long distance deal.

Not much nefarious you can do with a photo of a VIN.
I don't even have a photo of the VIN in the door jamb lol

Like what's a buyer supposed to do? Send the guy a check with no proof of a title or even a VIN number? Come on....

I can't tell you right now the bank won't go for it, and neither should I.

Most vehicles I see advertised have a pic of the title with name and address covered up. And they have or will send you a picture of the door jamb decal to "cross proof" the VIN
I can't even get that!

As much as I hate texting, you are 100% right.
My company truck has a dash cam. When using the phone on bluetooth I have a record I can review, as long as I do so within a couple of days before it wraps.

Sold like 20+ trucks in my lifetime and never denied the buyer a look at the title. I even sent photocopies of them.

Found this Sunday morning. Has automatic and a Cummins (at least I think so, picture of motor is red). 26’ flatbed. Would be cool if its an N-14, but I bet it’s an M-11. If it’s an early 2004, it won’t have a cooled EGR, either which would be good…
